🍁VTuber Advice Thread🍁

So, your VTuber career isn’t taking off as much as you thought it would. Here’s a thread of legit reasons why it might not be, as well as tips on how to fix (most of) them!

(Spoiler: it has very little to do w/ fancy/expensive models)

1) HIGH EXPECTATIONS (1/3) 🍁

Honestly, a lot of ppl expect their VTuber persona to skyrocket in popularity from the get-go. Sure, it happened to someone else, but that was by chance/random algorithm/right place at right time/etc.

Unfortunately, it won’t happen to everyone.

1) HIGH EXPECTATIONS (2/3) 🍁

Basing your success off of others won’t help you.

Instead, set tangible & realistic goals to help you focus on where you want to grow (ex: 1000 followers by EOY) & post fun, engaging content like challenges, tags, & pictures to help you get there!

1) HIGH EXPECTATIONS (3/3) 🍁

If you *do* want to think of VTubing as a career, then treat it as one…8+ hour days, researching market trends, posting content every hour, etc.

Otherwise, just think of it as, at most, a fun hobby.

2) YOUR STREAMING PERSONALITY (1/3) 🍁

I’m going to be blunt - I’ve come across MANY streamers/VTubers that are boring to watch. They never interact with chat, barely talk, seem bored themselves, etc.

Streaming is less about the game and MORE about entertaining your audience.

2) YOUR STREAMING PERSONALITY (2/3) 🍁

Don’t worry, small talk is a skill ANYONE can work on.

Practice by narrating to yourself everything you do, narrating how your day went, narrating…everything!

Also, add a QOTD to your stream to give you/your chat something to talk about!

2) YOUR STREAMING PERSONALITY (3/3) 🍁

Also, you need *energy* when streaming. This doesn’t mean yelling a lot or flying off the handle; I’m referring to seeming alert & excited to stream/talk to people!

Coming across as irritable, bored, etc. can be a big turn off for viewers.

3) YOUR STREAM’S QUALITY (1/2) 🍁

Going off the last point, your stream’s quality might be the problem. No, I’m not referring to fancy VTuber models…I mean the basics like your video & sound.

If needed, improve those ASAP! A non-grating mic and clear gameplay goes a LONG way.

3) YOUR STREAM’S QUALITY (2/2) 🍁

A solid PC and good mic will take you farther than a nice model or set of overlays. Spending tons of money on art doesn’t guarantee success…there are hundreds of VTubers that spent thousands on their model, yet’ve never reached 1000 followers.

4) THE ALGORITHM AND LUCK (1/3) 🍁

Most popular indie VTubers became popular bc they were in the right place at the right time. With the internet, it’s hard to predict when something will appeal to the masses.

There are ways, though, to use the algorithm to your advantage!

4) THE ALGORITHM AND LUCK (2/3) 🍁

Research market trends as often as possible, use hashtags (no more than 4 per tweet), use graphics/memes regularly, and post several times a day (between 4-10 times).

Nothing above will GUARANTEE success, but you’ll likely be seen more often.

At the end of the day, though, it’s luck. Some people work hard for years and never get noticed. Others get popular day one (though keep in mind that without hard work those too fizzle out).

You can never predict where VTubing will take you!

5) MENTAL HEALTH (1/2) 🍁

Someone in my group chat pointed this out and it definitely needs to be said: VTubing comes with a LOT of people commenting on everything you do, good and bad.

If you struggle with mental health issues, you NEED to prepare yourself for this beforehand.

5) MENTAL HEALTH (2/2) 🍁

This can be done in many ways, like lowering expectations (see point 1), getting treatment, or simply just stepping away from social media for extended periods to focus on yourself.

Prioritize yourself and your happiness above all else.

I hope this thread was helpful. I’ve seen a lot of people posting lately about frustrations related to VTubing. So, I hope that this thread helps y’all improve your streams so hopefully you can see that growth you’re looking for!
