I'm in Northampton today. I arrived early to see some locations from one of my favourite books (Jerusalum by Alan Moore).

This is the bridge Freddie sleeps under. Incredibly low roof and covered with good graffiti.

The lair of the Nene Hag

Two of the Black Lion pubs mentioned in the book. One now closed and one re-named the Wig and Pen

The Trilliards Hall. It had a very moving message on the door, especially given the meaning of the place in the book.

Next to the Trilliards Hall was a paint-splashed skylight, which gave a beautiful galaxy effect. Also a vape shop called Moorevape. (Surely the spelling isn't a coincidence, unless Moore is a common local name?)

Another snooker hall nearby. Nice coincidence that it's near Angel Square.

Here's the angel itself. Mighty Mick 🙂

Small alleyways between houses were a huge feature of British life for years. There are hundreds of slang names for them. In Northampton it seems to be Jetty (pronounced Jitty in Jerusalum). Could spelling have been changed to avoid confusion, or is Jitty a local accent I wonder.

All Saint's Church, where John Clare wrote a poem and a big conversation happens in the book.

The Bear pub, when Ben Perritt stops on his walk

The New Life Towers, next to Marla and Ben's homes

The site of the, now-demolished, Jolly Smokers pub on Mayorhold.

Marla's block of flats (with a lovely kitten in one window today)

Dodderidge Church, with the mysterious door halfway up 🙂

Right next to Dodderidge Church is the Church Hall, where Alma Warren's art exhibition is held.

Scarlettwell Street, with the two mysterious houses at the west end

Super Sausage cafe, mentioned by Marla in the book.

St Peter's Church. One of Britain's oldest.

Hazelrig House, where the Dead Dead Gang spy on Oliver Cromwell.

As mentioned by Phyllis Painter in the book, the Borroughs has underwater rivers. This is a blocked-off well near Bath Street.
