A 🧵: Taking Notes Efficiently #studytwt #studytips #studytwtph

1
— hello! this is my 100+ ff tweet. studytwt has been very welcoming so far and I’m glad to be a part of this community. To celebrate, I’m going to share about how i take notes.

˗ˏˋ why i stopped taking traditional notes ´ˎ˗ #studytwt

2 📘
— pre-pandemic (hs years) i used to obssess using my different colored pens and highlighters just to take my notes in an aesthetically pleasing way. but i eventually find it very time and energy consuming…

2.1 📘
— here are my notes in 11th grade
— i made the mistake of taking these kind of notes during the lecture and bc of that, i miss a few notes after prioritizing the design over the content.
— i have to rewrite them numerous times and i wasted so much resources

˗ˏˋ transitioning to digital notes ´ˎ˗ #studytwt
3 💻

— I initially used One Note to list down my reminders and lectures since it has several useful features. I’m skilled in typing really fast so it was a great advantage when i have to take notes while listening to the prof

˗ˏˋ transitioning to digital notes ´ˎ˗

3.1 💻

— i was also able to ss, copy and paste slides to my digital note in case it has images or lenghty texts i wouldn’y be able to type.
— my friends and I share the file and he was able to fill up some details i missed

˗ˏˋ taking notes b4 the lecture ´ˎ˗ #studytwt

4 🧠
Pros
— this allows you to review the lesson ahead of the class which meant that you can actively listen to the lecture while you can also take ++ notes on post-its/note app

˗ˏˋ taking notes b4 the class ´ˎ˗

4.1 🧠
Cons
— not every profs hand out / upload the lectures before the class. unless you have the syllabus or list of lessons for your subject, you wouldn’t be able to apply this method

˗ˏˋ taking notes b4 the class ´ˎ˗ #studytwt

4.2 🧠
Do I prefer/recommend this?
— highly recommend this. it helped me focus more on getting recitation points since I already reviewed the topics beforehand. i dont prefer this tho since our profs upload the lec after the class

˗ˏˋ taking notes during the class ´ˎ˗ #studytwt

5 💪🏼
Pros
— this one’s for those who can actively listen while writing the notes down. it allows you to engage your mind and actively hone your skills in multi-tasking

˗ˏˋ taking notes during the class ´ˎ˗

5.1 💪🏼
Cons
— the time pressure can mess up your thought process. you’re juggling between writing the right spelling, listening to the prof, and chasing the slides before it moves. there’s a chance you’ll end up retaining less learnings.

˗ˏˋ taking notes during the class ´ˎ˗ #studytwt

5.2 💪🏼
do i prefer/recommend this?
— 50/50. i try to take a little notes as possible during lectures, only limiting it to the +++infos not seen in the material provided.
— this also works best during F2F setups

˗ˏˋ taking notes during the class ´ˎ˗

5.3 💪🏼
why only 50/50?
— i realized that using an 80/20 split as a solution effectively improved the distribution of the knowledge i retain. 80% listening, 20% notes. The 50/50 recommendation depends on your own preference. U do u.

˗ˏˋ taking notes after the class ´ˎ˗ #studytwt

6 👩🏻‍💻
Pros
— this goes accordingly to ur preferred sched. you’ll be able to write your notes especially when u have the resources u need (recorded lectures, presentations, etc.) you can even do ur notes aesthetically as u pleased.

˗ˏˋ taking notes after the class ´ˎ˗

6.1 👩🏻‍💻
Cons
— not everyone can get the said resources ⬆️
— there’s a chance you won’t be able to remember ++ infos not presented in the material unless u scribbled some notes during the lecture

˗ˏˋ taking notes after the class ´ˎ˗ #studytwt

6.2 👩🏻‍💻
do i prefer/recommend this?
— i prefer this, but i do not recommend this especially during F2F setups. I prefer this for majority of our classes they most likely provide the resources after the lecture.

˗ˏˋ notes: before, during, or after class? ´ˎ˗ #studytwt

7 🤔
— it really depends on your own preference. but what i suggest is a mixture of all methods. prepare before the lecture, scribble down ++infos during, take down notes after classes.

˗ˏˋ Miss Mauve’s Writing Method ´ˎ˗ #studytwt

8 🌱
— how do i do mine? I use the mix-methods. It might sound tiring but it’s better to divide my energy equally than exerting it on one time period between the three. that way, i dont have to worry missing any notes.

˗ˏˋ Miss Mauve’s Writing Method ´ˎ˗

8.1 🌱

— i prefer digital notes but i do print them afterwards since i like to highlight physically.
— i have this color-coded system for my post-its and highlighters
— disclaimer: what works for me might now work for u

˗ˏˋ thank you! ´ˎ˗ #studytwt #studytwtph

— and that’s a wrap for this week’s Sunday tips. I am vv thankful for the 100+ followers supporting me in this account. I hope to meet more people in this loving community.
