Truss and Kwarteng doubling down overnight is to be expected. This is a cult, defined by their overwhelming belief in their world view. They are right, we are wrong. Check the comments by Minford and others

The real aim behind last week's budget was to create the conditions where they would have an excuse to cut the state and decimate public services. That is their core aim. See their book, 'Britannia unchained' Banker's bonuses was always a distraction. It worked

So how have we reacted to this? Well a lot of people are taking the classic liberal democrat view and judging them by what we would call logic and common sense

But that is simply playing into their hands. It allows them to carry on calling it out as Remoaner angst

I genuinely don't think for example that they are at all concerned about whether their decisions make political sense in the medium term. Between now and the next GE they are convinced they can persuade colleagues and enough of the public to win a GE (despite the polls)

Measuring them by the normal standard of, will it make them electable next GE satisfies our curiosity but they don't think like that. They are displaying the traits of a cult, total belief in their world view and damn the torpedoes

It's not as if we haven't seen it before. Trump did exactly the same. As I understand it Biden has not yet been unable to undo all the 'damage' Trump did to the USA with his executive decisions. Note 'damage' is our view, not Trumpers' view

Truss is determined to radically reshape the UK. Indeed it is her mission. She knows there will be opposition but she and her backers have waited a long time for this moment. They are not going to give up easily

It seems enough Tory MPs atm are prepared to let it run

So my plea is for people to have a think before we make calls about how illogical this decision or that decision are. The only logic they are following is their determination that they are right, we are all wrong

As a postscript can I say I want to be back in the world where logic, common sense, integrity and decency prevails, but we are faced with dealing with something very different

Not only does it act like a cult it also shows all the signs of being a coup in plain sight

So, what to do about it

First don't stop calling it out - you have to stay true to your values

Second if you have a Tory MP let them know your feelings, calmly and clinically

Third support those groups such as @RebootGb who are working hard to get reform on the agenda
