How many buffaloes are needed to attain spiritual awakening?
Reminds me of an incident in Seshadri Swamigal’s life.

Swamigal was walking in Tiruvannamalai, and was very intensely staring at a buffalo.
A passerby saw this strange act, which is not unusual for Swamigal, and then amusingly asked, ‘What is Swamigal watching?’.

Swamigal replied, ‘Ahh.. Is Swamigal watching this Buffalo?’ ….. ‘hmmm.. you tell me what is Swamigal watching?’ asked Swamigal somewhat mockingly.

The passerby of course replied, ‘Swami, this is a buffalo’.
Swamigal then replied to him, ‘It this a buffalo??? Not at all… This is BRAHMAN’.

To answer your question, one buffalo is sufficient to awaken you all the way to enlightenment.
It is in the observation, and not in the buffalo, which is very beautiful by the way.

Try staring at her eyes, and so much mystery of existence may be unveiled.
I used to meditate staring on cows when I was a child, and that was fun and endearing. They are lovely beings and give great company for a very long time.
