You asked, we answered! Here are some responses to the questions you guys generously contributed a few weeks ago… #IWTV #InterviewWithTheVampire #QandA
Q: @emos_que asked if we referenced Tintoretto in 102 because he painted the Martyrdom of St. Paul.
A: We picked Tintoretto because we wanted a contemporary in the Venetian school. The connection to St. Paul is inadvertent but very cool!
Q: @cspacat asked how the writing team was assembled and how it functioned.
A: Our showrunner, Rolin Jones, has a bias towards playwrights. The team read a ton of people and picked 6 writers, who had a very particular set of skills, skills they have acquired over very long careers, skills that make them a nightmare for people like you.
A: It functioned miserably over Zoom rooms (Zoom is less than ideal) with writers in 3 countries and spanning 2 continents. With special appearances from @StayDancingDave’s adorable cat.
Q: @lincodega asked who was the funniest writer?
A: Everyone is funny but @moscotweets is the most Canadian.
Q: @lincodega asked how we approached updating the material.
A: With religious trepidation and wild abandon.
Q: @rockstarlestat asked if Louis will appear more if we get more seasons.
A: Yes, yes, yes, yes…… yes, yes, yes, yes (and yes).
Q: @SherlockHu_A asked if there was a rough plan about how many seasons the show will last and how many books it will cover?
A: The writer’s room approaches every season as if it’s last. Anne’s novels are a big bank, and we are trying to spend as much $ as we can.
Q: @catladylife_nyc asked what parts from future books are you looking forward to potentially adapting?
A: There is a dirty secret that Rolin only signed on initially, so he could do Season 3 of this show.
Q: @prouvaireaftrdk asked, in the church scene, was the part of Lestat's speech that Louis narrates over scripted?
A: We always write dialogue for the actors in instances like that, so they’re not sitting there talking about their lunch trying to make it look emotional.
Q: @_IsaBones asked if we’ve considered the thoughts Anne Rice shared on Facebook about the relationship between Lestat and Louis?
A: Yes. But actually, there is a Playboy article Anne did that the writers working on S2 are finding particularly interesting right now…
Q: @lestats_a_wh0re asked how long it took to create the façade of Storyville?
A via Mara: Construction was delayed b/c of Hurricane Ida, so we couldn't begin until Sept 2021. Shooting began 2/15/2022. We had to build, paint, dress, light, & age the entire set in less than 5 (frantic) months. We spent months before & during designing the set & graphics.
And that’s all we got for now folks! Hope you enjoyed. Don’t worry, there will be another opportunity to ask some questions soon…
