OK so I need to get off the internet in a minute because this isn't helping anyone. But I'm trying to understand. Lots of people are talking about the cost of all of these 'illegals' (who are not breaking the law). So I looked up who runs the centre (who are breaking the law).
So. It's run by Mitie Care and Custody. Their directors are registered at The Shard, that famously cheap building in London Bridge mitie.com/all-services/c… (FYI Manston is called a removal centre, which tells you a lot)
I looked up their accounts. I'm no accountant but it seems they're looking pretty healthy. Taking home a profit of £6 mil in tax payers money this year.... …te.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/069762…
They're earning pretty good £££ too. In 2020 (the only year I could find) CEO Phil Bently took home £2 mil, and has more in shares....
Mitie were illegally handed loads of covid contracts (testing, quarantine hotels etc). How? Well Tory Peer Philippa Roe is chair of the board. And Tory peer Baroness McGregor-Smith was CEO of Mitie for almost a decade. huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/revealed…
So yes. It shouldn't need saying but it obviously does. Someone is earning A LOT of tax payers money here, profiting from misery. And it's not the people sleeping on cardboard at manston.
I know putting all of this on twitter is probably pointless. But the voices in opposition are just SO LOUD right now I feel like we all have to, just to try to counter the tidal wave of hatred. Even if nobody sees it....
