[my math journey]
in PH, there's this yearly competition called MTAP, where three selected contestants participate. from grade 1 to 6, I belonged in those !
(unfortunately, these programs were discontinued due to the pandemic)
[my math journey]
when face-to-face came back, i rediscovered my love for numbers and math (i tell u, my experience with math during online classes was HORROR) and I'm back at the math game again : )
[tips]
1. UNDERSTAND the formula, do not memorize
probably one of the things that helped me the most was asking "why?" watching math history videos helped me a lot in understanding the concepts than mindlessly following the formulas.
[tips]
2. a lot of practice problems
i find homeworks in word problems enjoyable. this is also how we reviewed for math during my MTAP days, and this way of practicing your math skills is one of the best
[tips]
3. get a whiteboard
ever since I was in grade 1, my mom bought me a whiteboard, and I used it to do basic arithmetic. then, until now, grade 9, I still use the whiteboard method to solve for random practice problems from the internet (for fun)
[tips]
4. ask questions
teachers are there to help you. ask them questions during lecture, and I'm sure they'll be glad to help you out.
[tips]
5. download apps like Microsoft Math (fave!)
I use this to check my work and find out the correct way to solve a problem. I study the process provided in the app and learn from it.
ps: DON'T cheat.
[tips]
6. math resources beyond school
my mom used to buy me math books 1 grade level beyond my actual grade level. (ex: at grade 2, she bought me a grade 3 workbook)
i also utilize online resources like Khan Academy and The Organic Chemistry Teacher!
[tips]
7. change your mindset about math
watch TED talks to help you soothe your math anxiety. I recommend:
that's all!
math can be hard, but changing your mindset towards it and facing your fears will help you grow and make maths easier for you. 📚
