New week, new thread. This one is 50 simple (and some not so simple) Google tips and tricks.
Search within a site using "site:" followed by the URL of the site (without the http: bits) and then your chosen search term. Results will be limited to hits from that specific site.
Use the - (minus symbol) to exclude terms you don't want clogging up your results page.
Customise your Google search via Quick Settings
Search Google's newspaper archive. Use "site:google.com./newspapers" and then your search term

To restrict your search results to a certain file type, like a PDF for example, add"filetype:" and the related file extension to your search string
Search for the origins of words by using "etymology:" followed by the term you are interest in.
Search for cached pages using "cache:" and the URL of the site. Perfect for when sites are unreachable.
Use an asterisk * as a wild card for whole words to tweak your results
