Since there are shady people asking for help for Ukraine, I decided you should know who we are.
This is me and Helena at the Odessa film festival in 2020. We had just won the awards for best Ukrainian film and best director for our documentary Everything will not be fine. 1/7
My name is Adrian Pirvu, I am 36, born in Romania, lived in Ukraine for several years. I am a film director and producer. Was building a life in Kyiv before Feb 24, now starting over in Bucharest...
Fun fact: My right eye is made out of plastic :) 2/7
Helena Maksyom graduated top of her class in university, worked in IT and business development and stayed kind and honest through good times and many bad times. Her real love was always telling stories so for the past few years she was fully committed to making films. 3/7
Before the full scale invasion we were working on our new documentary about children growing up in the institutional care system of Ukraine while also working on other short films focused on disability rights issues. This is us in 2021 on a shoot 4/7
On February 24, I came back to Romania because I could not earn a living anymore in Ukraine and thought that I would be more useful from here. I have glaucoma and 20% vision so I would be more of a nuisance than help in a warzone. Helena did not want to leave 5/7
She volunteered for the National Guard, learned how to use a weapon and how to treat the wounded. She was deployed to Zolote for a month and was in the last Ukrainian unit that withdrew from the town in the summer. She has served in the most dangerous places in the east 6/7
Helana wants to be a filmmaker and live a peaceful life. The russians gave her no other choice but to fight. A choice many good Ukrainians have been forced into. If you want to hear Helena speak, she was with us on our latest Ukrainian Truths space 7/7
and by the way, if you really want to get to know us, you can watch the film we both directed and were protagonists of, on demand. Proceeds go to Helena. Available worldwide except US and Canada. remember to turn on the subtitles in the Vimeo player
