Thread dedicated to

Group Capt Varun Singh
SC

on his 1st Balidan Diwas.

He belongs to Tri-Service family where his father is an Army Veteran and brother is Lt Cdr in Indian Navy.

Gp Capt Varun was born in Kanholi vill. of Rudrapur, UP to Col K P Singh (R) & Smt Uma Singh.

After completing his school from Army Public School, Chandimandir he was selected for NDA, and passed out in 2004 as Officer Cadet. Later he went to Air Force Academy for further training.

He had less interest in extra-curricular activities and intially lacked self-confidence.

"I was very average student in sports and academics who has barely scored first division in 12th class. Even though I was made the discipline perfect in 12th. But I had a passion for Airplanes and Aviation."

He wrote this into a letter to his School Principal in 2021.

His career flourished when he became Flight Lieutenant, and later flying instructor.
He was batch-mate of Group Capt Abhinandan, Vrc.
He had completed an eleven-month course after that of Experimental Test Pilot.
In his career, he mainly operated Jaguars and Tejas.

On 12 Oct 2020 during his sortie in LCA Tejas, the aircraft developed a system failure due to major technical issues when he was flying it at around 10,000 feet. It resulted in a total loss of control. Dispite, he managed to regain control over and safely landed his aircraft.

For this professionalism, on 15 August 2021, President Sh Ram Nath Kovind conferred Grp Capt Varun Singh with the Shaurya Chakra.

When Gp Capt Varun used to be on leave, he loves to spend time with children in the society, used to hear about their ambitions, and motivates them.

He dreamt of living a simple life after his retirement, and had a plan to settle down in his native village and cultivate crops in the farm.

He was living with his wife, son and daughter at Wellington.

On 8th Dec 2021, he was the lone survivor of the Mi-17 helicopter crash in which Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat and 12 others lost their lives.

He fought for his life for one week, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries early on 15th Dec.

During childhood he has faced harsh situations and emerged victorious. There were complications during his birth and the doctors had given up as he was a premature baby.

He was a fighter and fought till last breath.

BLUE SKIES FOREVER.
