How can yoga be a system of spiritual development?

Body & mind are inextricably linked so before you can tackle any work with the mind & consciousness you need to start on the body.

A healthy body produces a healthy mind. Health of body is established on 3 pillars:

Exercise: Includes cardio-vascular like walking, cycling, jogging, tennis, squash as well as retaining full range of motion and flexibility as well as improving strength through āsana

Diet - eat a sattvik diet and eat less - once a day is ideal or one small meal and one big meal. Eat at regular times and never after 3pm.

Sleep. – ensure you get the required amount of rest and sleep to ensure your ability to attend to your acts of daily living.

Biggest problem facing modern folks is the inability to RELAX. We all know what it means, but we need to learn HOW to. Proper relaxation of body immediately relaxes the mind; with relaxation of the mind comes the ability to meditate and for spiritual development & peace.

YOGA serves the purpose, should be the basis of spiritual practice.

If you observe jihadis, fanatics, agitators, SJW’s & revolutionaries etc — you will find tension, anxiety, anger, rage, fear, resentment, jealousy etc. All these can be cured through proper relaxation.

Relaxation and breathing exercises (prānāyāma) are the keys to personal and social peace and tranquillity. YOGA is the best methodology for the same.
