Fact Check: The claims against Ezra Miller🧵

The legal matters are resolved, but the media still hasn't followed up on the allegations & rumors they reported in 2022. So I did.

Claim: Ezra Miller choked a woman

❌ FALSE
A clip posted on 4/1/20 shows Miller using a trained maneuver to lower a woman to the ground. Slowed footage shows their hand is not around her throat, but to the side of her neck. She was not being choked.

Contrary to the popular accusation that Miller slammed her to the ground, it's clear from the slowed footage that they were taking care to brace her descent so she wouldn't actually fall or be hurt.

The clip is only about 7 seconds long, and lacks context. When asked for more information, the source refused to answer and deleted the clip instead, just 6 days later.

In 2020 a Reddit user claiming to be the woman's friend left a comment making multiple claims about the incident, including that the police were called to pick Miller up.

This directly contradicts the statement released by the Reykjavik police on 4/8/2020.

A spokesperson for the police stated they were not called to the scene and no injuries were reported. However, in 2022 an anonymous woman claiming to be the victim told journalists the police were called to the scene. It is unknown why she chose to change her story years later.

As journalists have now reported conflicting information, it is unclear whether due diligence was done to verify the woman's identity or claims.

As Miller's mother had to remind them, it is a journalist's job to separate the false from the true.

On 6/16/22 a friend of Miller stated in a tweet that the woman had spent days stalking and harassing them before the incident. This would make it an act of self defense by Miller.
According to the tweet, Warner Brothers & the police are aware of the full context of the situation.

This description of the woman's behavior was corroborated by witnesses in Iceland. In comments on a local article about the incident, they described Miller attempting to leave the situation to avoid harassment. The woman & her friends seem to have forced & filmed a confrontation.

Claim: Ezra Miller attacked people in a bar

⚠️ INACCURATE
On 3/28 Miller was arrested for disorderly conduct at Margarita Village in HI. According to social media posts, an argument began over queerphobic remarks made by another customer.

According to the post, the other customer became aggressive. This is supported by the body cam footage of Miller's arrest. The man is confrontational throughout, and asks the police "Are you going to light him up or am I going to light him up?"

In addition to alleged queerphobic comments, Miller told police they had video evidence of the man claiming to be a nazi and threatening them. The police can be heard responding, "Okay, so?"

Ultimately Miller pled no contest to the disorderly conduct charge and paid a $500 fine. However, it is clear from the evidence above that their actions were in self defense against an attempted hate crime.

Claim: Ezra Miller robbed a couple

⚠️ PRESUMED INNOCENT
In March a couple in HI accused Miller, their guest at the time, of theft. The couple filed a TRO on 3/28 but no corresponding police reports, even though their allegations included a federal offense (passport theft).

Later the same day, the husband spoke about the incident on Reddit. He expressed concern for Miller's mental health, but also his intent to sell the paparazzi information about Miller.

On 4/11 Miller's lawyer appeared in court in response to the TRO. The couple abruptly filed to dismiss it and the court granted their request with prejudice (meaning the claim cannot be filed again in the same court). Their lawyer declined to comment as to why.

On 4/13 a clip of Miller was posted on Instagram. In the comments a friend of theirs alleged that the couple's claims were false and they had abused the TRO to exploit Miller. The individual also observed that the media was not reporting the full story.

As there is no clear evidence, no police investigation, no TRO, and there may have been ulterior motives at play, the claim cannot be conclusively proved or disproved. Therefore, Miller is presumed innocent.

Claim: Ezra Miller threatened someone's life in a video

⚠️ INACCURATE
In January 2022 Miller posted a video in which they specifically addressed the KKK chapter of Beulaville, NC, not an individual.

The video was in response to the suspected arson of Miller's friend's home. The homeowner claimed to have seen someone fleeing after setting the fires. No one was injured, but she lost everything she owned.

Miller's video does contain a vague threat, which the historically violent hate group may have taken seriously.
Miller is reported to have received numerous credible death threats & been attacked over the following months. Law enforcement had to regularly check on their safety.

Multiple reports downplayed and mocked the potential for danger. Miller was framed as being irrationally afraid & suspicious of everyone.
The only proved instance of them expressing such concern was made directly to police, who refused to view the video evidence Miller offered.

Claim: Ezra Miller groomed a minor

❌ FALSE
Ren Turner, Miller's stalker of 5 years, confessed to co-creating this rumor in 2018 with Mia Solange. She also named Tokata Iron Eyes' parents, Cazanova Turner & Oliver Ignatius as helping her publicly defame Miller.

Her multiple confessions and interviews were never reported, despite the fact that they directly corroborated what the alleged victims and a witness were saying - that the aforementioned people had ulterior motives and were lying to the media about them & Miller.

Tokata also personally refuted their parents' claims many times. They accused their family of psychologically abusing them, undermining their autonomy and weaponizing their cultural & spiritual beliefs against them.

Since Tokata's parents were seeking a permanent conservatorship over a legal adult, the court would have required her to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Tokata is obviously competent & has also started therapy; any grooming or manipulation would have been noticed.

The Standing Rock court ruled in Tokata's favor on 7/12/22. Their parents claimed the odds were stacked against them, but it is more likely the court saw no reason to allow a permanent conservatorship over a competent, capable adult.

In June 2022 a second protection order against Miller by Shannon Guinn was reported by The Daily Beast. Per a later report by NBC it came after an argument with Miller & did not contain any allegations.

It was revealed by a mutual friend and witness that Guinn spoke to Chase Iron Eyes just days before filing. Around the same time Tokata publically accused their father fabricating the situation.

n an interview on Popcorned Planet, a friend of Guinn confirmed Miller had not personally done anything concerning to Guinn's child. She claims Guinn was motivated by by stories she heard about Tokata, which were all disproved.

Claim: Ezra Miller had an inappropriate friendship with Tokata Iron Eyes when she was a minor

❌ FALSE
Miller met Chase Iron Eyes through activism in 2012 & they continued working together for years. There is no evidence of a personal friendship with Tokata before 2022.

Additionally, Tokata is also an activist and has worked alongside many celebrities, activists & politicians, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Greta Thunberg and AOC.
None of the aforementioned cisgender individuals are under suspicion of unduly influencing her.

Claim: Ezra Miller kidnapped a minor

❌ FALSE
This refers to Tokata Iron Eyes, 18. Chase Iron Eyes, her father, claimed he could not locate Miller or Tokata to serve court documents. This statement was misleadingly reported by the media, despite Tokata's attempts to correct it.

Statements from Tokata's parents and friends prove she was safe and in contact with them the whole time, she simply refused to move back into her parents' home.

Claim: Ezra Miller assaulted Sara Jumping Eagle

❌ FALSE
A news site owned by Chase Iron Eyes reported that during an attempt to retrieve Tokata, Miller slammed Jumping Eagle's arm in a car door. This contradicts the incident report they filed & was deleted after losing the case

Per the incident report filed by Chase Iron Eyes on 5/29/22, Sara Jumping Eagle received a minor injury while trying to forcibly drag Tokata from a car. She refused treatment at the scene. Miller was on the other side of the car & could not have been the cause of the injury.

Claim: Ezra Miller is on the run & taunting the police

❌ FALSE
Miller was accounted for all year. They have cooperated with law enforcement at all times, including court appearances & safety checks by local police when Miller was receiving death threats.

The rumor was the result of irresponsible reporting by Sam Hargrave of The Direct. In June Miller reposted memes which referred to private interpersonal conflicts. On 6/14/22 Hargrave reported his personal misinterpretation of them as fact without doing any due diligence.

Claim: Ezra Miller took Tokata Iron Eyes out of the country alone

❌ FALSE
Per the protection order Tokata's parents filed in June 2022, WB invited a large group of people from Standing Rock to London for a special studio tour. Tokata was one of many guests, and was chaperoned.

Claim: Ezra Miller controlled Tokata Iron Eyes' statements & social media

❌ FALSE
This claim was made by Sara Jumping Eagle. Tokata refuted it, and the Standing Rock Youth Council confirmed they contacted her and she was "answering as the Tokata we all know and love".

Claim: There are multiple assault charges against Ezra Miller

❌ FALSE
There are no assault charges against Miller. They pled no contest to a disorderly conduct charge in March and pled guilty to a trespassing charge in January 2023.

Claim: Ezra Miller harassed a woman in Germany

❌ FALSE
On June 30, Variety reported a woman's account of an upsetting encounter with Miller. However, during the time the alleged event occurred, Miller was not even in Germany.

Claim: Ezra Miller threw a chair at a woman, injuring her

⚠️ INACCURATE
On 4/19/22 Miller intervened to protect a woman from a man wielding a knife. They threw a chair in defense, but it mistakenly hit a nearby woman. She refused treatment for a 1/2in cut & did not press charges

While the thrown chair has been widely reported, the context of Miller protecting a woman & her children from domestic abuse is almost always left out. The woman, Ana Rosa, frequently criticized the media for their selective and misleading reports

Claim: Ezra Miller held a woman & children hostage

❌ FALSE
This rumor refers to Ana Rosa, the domestic abuse survivor who escaped with Miller's help in April.
She publicly refuted the claim, stating that Miller provided a temporary safe haven for her & her kids.

Claim: Ezra Miller housed kids in dangerous conditions

❌ FALSE
This claim was made by Cazanova Turner, their father & abuser, despite never having seen the home. Their mother, Ana Rosa, refuted this.

Both the police and CPS visited and also confirmed the kids were safe. No drugs or unsecured weapons were found.

It was later revealed by Ren Turner that she directed Oliver Ignatius to make up the claims so Cazanova could take them to CPS & the media.

This rumor was refueled by Cheyenne Roundtree's Rolling Stone article on 8/10/22. It cast aspersions on AnaRosa & heavily favored the perspective of her abusive ex.
AnaRosa & her kids had left Miller's farm and were living independently. She kept their location private for safety

Claim: Ezra Miller runs a cult

❌ FALSE
This rumor was the result of irresponsible reporting by multiple journalists, including Katie Warren, Melkorka Licea & Julie Miller. They all reported unverified claims from anonymous sources. There is no evidence to support the claims.

The aforementioned journalists are known to have used Miller's stalker as an anonymous source. Miller filed a restraining order against her in 2018 due to the severity of her stalking & threats. Turner has a documented history of lying about her identity to access & defame Miller

Claim: Ezra Miller threatened a fan

❌ FALSE
On 7/2/22 Tiktok user Peter Knight shared a clip of him talking & joking with Miller in 2020. However it was presented as recent & edited in a way that removed the context of being mutually understood as a joke

Claim: Ezra Miller is going to prison for 26 years for burglary

❌FALSE
The burglary charge was dropped, meaning Miller is innocent of it. As part of a plea deal they pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of trespassing. They were fined and are currently on 1 year probation.

The story was over-dramatized by entertainment media. 26 years in prison was the maximum possible sentence for felony burglary. However, as it was nonviolent & due to a misunderstanding, legal experts correctly predicted that sentence would not apply.

Claim: Ezra Miller admitted guilt by apologizing for crimes

❌ FALSE
Miller apologized for worrying their loved ones during a mental health crisis. They have not addressed any specific allegations publicly.

Claim: Ezra Miller is using mental health as an excuse to avoid accountability

❌ FALSE
Sources spoke of Miller receiving counseling as early as 5/10 & attending rehab in July.
Miller's sole statement on 8/15 expressed contrition, and dedication to treatment & self improvement.

As there have been no further incidents since May 2022, there is no reason to doubt Miller's sincerity and commitment to recovering and doing better in the future.

Claim: Ezra Miller is only claiming to be nonbinary to avoid accountability

❌ FALSE
Miller came out as queer in 2012, over a decade ago. In 2018 they came out as non-binary. Their identity has nothing to do with recent controversy, except for how it was weaponized against them.

Claim: Ezra Miller is protected from consequences by privilege

❌ FALSE
Miller has accepted consequences and taken accountability for legitimate wrongs. They have cooperated with law enforcement investigations & accepted the results. This includes fines and a year of probation.

Furthermore, Miller is Jewish & non-binary. The majority of false claims against them relied heavily on harmful stereotypes & propaganda frequently used against both communities. Predatory media made money by stirring up bigotry and making Miller a scapegoat.

The role of conservative-owned Penske Media cannot be understated. Entertainment brands under their ownership were often the first to report inflammatory & poorly researched articles.

Additionally, investigations into the allegations have proved Miller's innocence in all but two instances, both misdemeanors.
Most of their perceived wrongdoing is the result of celebrity stalking and a vicious, hate-fueled smear campaign.

Those who know Miller have described them as an angel, a protector, and both caring & compassionate.

With all this in mind, it's clear that Ezra Miller is not a monster, simply a person going through a crisis whose kindness was severely taken advantage of.

On 3/29/23, Daily Mail released body cam footage of the arrest that took place on 4/19/22.
Contrary to the media narrative about them, Miller is calm, respectful, and fully cooperative with officers the entire time.

Included in the article, but curiously missing from the footage they released, was a transcript of Miller informing officers of extortion attempts against them. They describe a specific instance in which a person threatened to make a false report if Miller would not pay him.

Ana Rosa, who has credited Miller with saving her life, can also be heard speaking with police (at approx 2:28 in the full clip).

The laws governing the release of body-worn camera footage dictate that it must be retained for either 13 months or until the case is resolved, whichever is shorter.

As it has not been 13 months since the arrest yet, the media release of the footage suggests the case was closed without Miller ever being charged in the incident. Based on the available information, it appears they were simply questioned and released.

❗️UPDATE

On 6/30/23 Ezra Miller appeared in court with their lawyer to address Shannon Guin's accusations & the harassment protection order she filed on behalf of her child.

After reviewing the evidence Miller presented, the judge lifted the order ahead of its expiration date.

Under MA law, a harassment protection order is initially granted & a hearing is scheduled to allow both parties to address it. If the defendant fails to appear, the order is automatically extended by one year.

Miller & their lawyer made public statements clarifying that Miller was unable to attend the initial hearing due to being in treatment at the time. They assert that, had Miller been able to attend, the order would never have been issued in the first place.

It is clear from the HPO that the judge did not extend or modify the order based on any claims made by Guin (as they were absent from the document), but simply due to Miller's inability to appear in court at the time.

The hearing date of 6/30 was scheduled on the original HPO. However, Guin did not attend & has not addressed the matter publicly.

As the evidence Miller presented is consistent with witness testimony and the judge saw fit to rescind the HPO, Miller can confidently be called innocent in this matter.
