I discovered that temple food is a big deal in Odisha. This was at Ananta Vasudeva temple in Bhubaneswar.
The meal had rice, saag, dalma, besara and pachadi.

The temple was built in 11th century AD and used to house artisans who built the Lingaraja temple.

This is a 5 decade old place with an envious loyalty. They don't even have a signage but it is still a landmark place for breakfast in Bhubaneswar.

Try their Puri & Chakuli with Dalma.

Mudhi Mansa, a specialty of Baripada region.
Historically when kings used to go on hunting, they usually took Mudhi as it was easier to carry.
After hunting the royals used to eat the fresh meat with Mudhi. The dish now enjoys a cult status in Northern Odisha.

Also popular in coastal Andhra as Ariselu. I have grown up calling it as Anarsa in Maharshtra.
It also is a popular custom amongst Odia bridegrooms to carry along a basket of Arisa pithas for their in-laws.

A streetside place with 70 years of legacy.Somehow his outlet was shut and we went to his home where he had a proper setup.

No one had warned me about how big the Puris are compared to the rest of the country.

Where you come for the Cuttack Biryani but stay for the Kheema.

Rohu & Pohala fish thalis at Dalma Hotel.
There was also some Bamboo Mutton which is cooked in tribal belt.
Locals call it Bausa. It is similar to Bongulo that you get in Andhra Pradesh.
If you are a Hockey fan visiting Bhubaneswar, a visit to Bocca cafe is a must.
You will find touring Hockey fans and FIH officials over here.
The cafe also has a beautiful note by Andy Halliday & an English Jersey signed by all players from 2018 team
Nimantran is a restaurant which started as an OTDC initiative.
They do some fusion dishes like Bari Chura salad and Posto Tikki but their Prawns Kasa is the bomb.
Also, what a cool way to promote tourism 👍

Odia thali at Kanika at Mayfair Lagoon if you want a fine dine experience.

The chaat had Ghugni and Bara as the base and was topped with corn, coconut, onion and chutneys
Cafe Indistinct Chatter.
Stopover for a coffee at this really pretty cafe.
Cafe 16 in Satyanagar is a bungalow turned into a cafe.
Do try their Chello Kebab and Japanese Katsu Chicken.
They have a really nice set of books from the adjoining Bakul library.
And two really nice cool Coffee brands from the tribal heartland of Odisha.
