So i got more curious about #NorfolkSouthernDerailment @nscorp Southern after seeing them post a "Factcheck" article from USA today and on the USA today article at the bottom said it was paid for by a grant from FACEBOOK!
Last year, Norfolk Southern reported profits of $3.2 billion, a record for the company. Rather than investing in infrastructure, let alone improving the conditions for workers, the company has spent $18 billion over the past five years in
stock buybacks and dividends, that is, handouts to investors. nscorp.com/content/nscorp…
Then I noticed this Government Relations
I noticed in their Climate Lobbying Report that
In May 2021, Norfolk Southern Corporation’s shareholders passed a resolution at our annual shareholder’s meeting asking that we evaluate and publish a report describing if, and how, our lobbying activities (direct and through trade
associations and other organizations) align with the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement nscorp.com/content/dam/ns…
And of course we ALL know who is pushing the Paris Climate @POTUS
Following our science-based target commitment, we issued $500 million in green bonds in May 2021 to fund investments to reduce our company’s carbon emissions and help customers reduce their supply-chain emissions.
We reported that about 7% of our total non-deductible lobbying contributions to trade associations and chambers of commerce for 2021 were made to three state railroad associations: the Ohio Railroad Association. (INTERESTING)
Norfolk Southern believes that democracy is good for all businesses. nscorp.com/content/nscorp…
In 2020 they Lobbied for $580,000 to The Bipartisan Policy Center and Bipartisan Policy Center Action spend every day getting stuff done for democracy. On behalf of issues like (Student Loan Forgiveness, Legal immigration, S.3894, Growing Climate Solutions Act)

And apparently the railroad was trying to be sold wvxu.org/politics/2022-…
Cincinnati has leased the railway to Norfolk Southern for decades and that lease contract is up for renewal. Apparently they have put up a good fight for it wvxu.org/politics/2023-…
The CSR Board started negotiations in December 2020 with an offer to increase yearly rent from about $25 million a year to $65 million a year, increasing annually with inflation.
Norfolk Southern responded about seven months later in July 2021, offering to buy the railway for $865 million, plus $50 million paid over a period of one to four years. Norfolk Southern didn't even respond to the board's proposed lease terms.
The vote will be on the ballot in Nov.
"While Norfolk Southern has a positive perspective on the future of the rail industry, it also is evident that certain external threats to the industry could manifest themselves over the next
50 years, including re-regulation, autonomous trucking and 3D printing."
Norfolk Southern PAC contributes to mostly Democrats. (This is not the end) I'm adding more
OH look at that *ding ding* we have a winner for Norfolk Southern in the 2020 Presidental race!
