The report reveals concerning setbacks for womenโ€™s health, as maternal death rates either increased or stagnated in nearly all regions of the world.
While there was progress in reducing maternal deaths between 2000 & 2015, gains largely stalled, or even reversed, after this point

There were an estimated 287,000 maternal deaths in 2020. Most were in low- and middle-income countries.

Maternal deaths continue to be largely concentrated in the poorest parts of the world.
