When a #solarflare or filament eruption occurs, we don't immediately know if it launched a #CoronalMassEjection #CME
Great article from #SpaceWeatherLive
answers the question:
How do we know if a CME happened, if it's Earth directed & when it's going to arrive?
#spaceweather
Here are 4 methods...
1. Using the proton flux monitor
2. Using SOHO/LASCO coronagraph imagery
3. Using the SIDC Cactus Software
(included the last 2 days of CMEs according to Cactus)
4. Using the EPAM Plot
When does the CME arrive?
Once we know the speed of the coronal mass ejection, we can determine when it might arrive.
With the following table you can determine how long the coronal mass ejection will take to travel from the Sun to Earth.
Determining the impact by using the EPAM monitor.
Lastly, a big thank-you to SpaceWeatherLive.com (@_SpaceWeather_) for their website & app, attention to detail, and extensive information provided in a clear & easily understood format.
