Round-up from what the @EdinburghGreens (myself and @Alex4Craig_Dudd) Cllrs achieved on Culture and Communities Committee today (1/many!)

πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ¨πŸ–ŒοΈπŸ–ΌοΈπŸŽ¨I brought an emergency motion regarding the WASPS studio in Dalry, prompted by constituent concerns about its future. This was ruled non-urgent but will be debated next time. (2/x)

I asked @captheatres about their work on access to theatre for people living with dementia, and what it is doing to help young people from disadvantaged areas see and participate in theatre 🎭🏒(3/x)

Committee passed my motion for the Council to look again at the scoresheet it uses to monitor the impact and success of the festivals, with a view to having more indicators that look at the impact on climate change and social justice, and equalising access to culture 🌞πŸ₯πŸŽ(4/x)

I also asked officers about what the Council has done to work with the @SaveFilmhouse campaignπŸ“½οΈπŸŽžοΈπŸŽ¦ (5/x)

Regarding the forthcoming Community Centre strategy, @Alex4Craig_Dudd asked officers to allay concerns that the strategy might result in the closure of community centres (6/x) 🏑

Following-up work I did last year, I asked officers about how local levels of economic disadvantage are being taken into account when deciding which playparks are prioritised for investment (7/x) πŸ›βš½οΈπŸŒ²πŸžοΈ

I also asked about whether the Council favours play equipment made from recyclable materials (8/x) πŸ›β™»οΈ

The Committee also looked at the forthcoming Thriving Greenspaces strategy and I asked how it aligns with Edinburgh Living Landscapes, a partnership project that helps create and restore greenspaces to promote biodiversity, like planting meadows 🌺🌿🌲(9/x)

Scrutinising the recent Hogmanay and Edinburgh's Christmas events, @Alex4Craig_Dudd's successfully moved a motion worked on by @CllrBenParker to ensure adequate protections for trees are included in performance indicators for future Christmas and Hogmanay events (10/x) πŸŒ²πŸŽ„πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ„πŸŒ³

Looking at park safety, @Alex4Craig_Dudd asked officers about how money earmarked by the recent budget might be used to promote safety in parks 🦺🌳🌲🌴🌺🌻 (11/x)

And last, but not least, @SteveAMBurgess brought a motion, passed unanimously, to have a consultation on the future of the Prestonfield council bowling green site where the bowling club has ceased operation, with a view to using it for community growing. πŸ₯•πŸ₯”πŸ₯¦πŸ½οΈ (12/12)

Missed one! Having pointed out that there are no environment and climate-relevant KPIs in the Christmas and Hogmanay contracts, officers pledged to rectify this for the next contract.
