1/As part of "The Complete Works of @XCOPYART"

Today we look at the 1st craftable NFT project in

The @PlasmaBears Breakdown

Everything you need to know in 1 🧵

2/Plasma Bears

Plasma Bears was a collectible crafting game created by @BlockadeGames in early 2019

It challenged players to collect rare bear parts and create unique NFTs

Each NFT was a combination of several different bear body parts with each part contributing to rarity

3/Blockade Games

Founded in 2018 to create F2P NFTs

Blockade Games also developed @NeondistrictRPG and Pineapple Arcade

Plasma Bears were launched as a prototype for Neon District, to test out advanced new tech enabled by Ethereum

4/Team

@Coin_artist - CEO & CoFounder
In Aug 2021 she was named to Fortune Magazine’s NFTy 50

@Cybourgeoisie - CTO & CoFounder
Diego Rodriguez (@Dhtenshi) - CoFounder & Artist
Chris Chapman (@m3mnoch) - Exec Producer
Kyle Chivers - Art Director
Dave Smith - Game Designer

5/Launch

The team had been waiting for a metadata type token and when @CryptoKitties released, they launched within the week

Fun fact: Plasma Bears were originally named "BUIDL Bears" until lawyers advised against it due to a clash with Build-A-Bear Workshop

6/Loom Network

The Bears were originally on the Loom Network

The smart contract for crafting and building bears was written by @fablednet and @RandallKanna

7/Early Contributors

Plasma Bears incorporated artwork from some of the earliest crypto artists including @XCOPYART

Here is a list of early contributors:

8/Popularity

Plasma Bears was the 1st craftable NFT project and created with a F2P format

Because there were no gas fees it attracted a lot of players

In 6 weeks, over 300,000 NFTs were created

Fun Fact: @VitalikButerin was given a custom bear as an early gift

9/Ethereum Bridge

Loom Network unexpectedly shutdown and the Bears had to be bridged to ETH

Due to gas fees and lack of market activity, very few people moved them over before the bridge closed

Fun Fact: "Plz Don't Die" owned by @Cybourgeoisie was the 1st bridged Bear

10/Shutdown

Following the bridge due to lack of players the Plasma Bears game shutdown

Only 1503 original assets from the Plasma Bears game exist

11/Scarcity

There are a total of 22 XCOPY Bears remaining:
12 Common rarity
10 Uncommon rarity

All are 1 of 1s and are aesthetically pleasing

12/Accumulation

In March 2021 OGs like @Coldie and @MattKaneArtist began to pick up a few XCOPY Bears

Early holders were also happily hodling

13/Gold Rush

In Aug 2021 the Bears came to the attention of @Garyvee

He collected a complete set of 3 XCOPY bears for 146 ETH ($451,700)

Spurring a gold rush that propelled the project into OpenSea’s top-10 in 24-hour sales volume

14/Gold Rush continued

Another complete XCOPY bear sold for 100 ETH ($309,384) and a partial one sold for 33 ETH ($102,097) soon after

@LoganPaul also decided to buy a bear for 23 ETH

15/Complete Sets

Only 3 collectors managed to collect all 3 colour variations: @Coldie, @Garyvee & Edmond

No collector has managed to collect three Uncommon Bears

16/Valuations

The floor for a set of 3 colour variations is 1000 ETH for 1 Uncommon (bear 24) and 2 Commons (bear 22 and 23) (these are for sale by Edmond):
