Shumei Okawa [1886-1957] was one of the main figures of the Japanese RW in the 20th century, a philosopher with an interest in Eastern religions and also in Islam (translated the Qur'an).
An aspect he liked: no separation between religion/politics.

In 1913, while comparing Muslims with Confucians & Buddhists in China, he said :
"Muslims can therefore be considered as the most powerful religious community in contemporary China."

He criticized European Orientalists for their unfair treatment of the prophet ﷺ :

"It is worthwhile emphasizing that he met the Prophet Muhammad many times in his day dream after he went mad, and it was these meetings that revived his interest in al-Qur'an."

Post-WWII he escaped trial because of his mental health, many estimating that he actually feigned madness.
Ex : during the trial, he could be seen slapping the bald head of General Hideki Tojo, the de facto PM of Japan during WWII.
