I’m getting real tired of this being brought up time and time again.
Here’s a thread breaking down the rape allegations made against Melanie Martinez.
Before going in depth, I just want to clarify a few things.
None of us were there when the events took place. Nobody will ever truly know down to the minute the specifics of what happened. It’s up to us to judge and decide who to stand by.
As you can tell, I’m clearly a Melanie Martinez fan account. I’ve been a fan since 2016, but had distanced myself from her music when the accusations came out the following year. Though, the more I looked into it, the more I was able to determine the truth.
I firmly believe that Melanie Martinez is innocent, and I will take that to the grave with me.
And no, we are NOT rape/abuse apologists.
Let’s begin:
Their friendship began in 2014. Melanie and Timothy found each other early in their careers, forming what was once a close friendship.
In 2016, Timothy dressed up as Melanie, despite later stating their friendship ended in 2015.
In January 2017, Timothy was asked if she was still friends with Melanie.
“Yep we’re friends,” Heller responded.
Timothy showed support towards Melanie when she released the music video for “Mad Hatter” by liking a post from Michael Keenan. This was barely three months before Timothy’s accusations.
Through tweets, Timothy would utilize he/him pronouns to refer to her abuser.
On December 4th, 2017, Timothy took to Twitter, claiming she was raped and mistreated by her former best friend Melanie. She goes into detail about her experience.
Melanie responded with an initial statement saying “She never said no to what we chose to do together.” This phrase was what threw people off.
The first thing to address and get out of the way is the infamous line, “She never said no.” People either viewed this as Melanie admitting the statements were true or add “to what we chose to do together” in context, but we’ll take a look at what was being referred to shortly.
Melanie issued another statement to clarify that she would “never be intimate with someone without their absolute consent.” Melanie confirmed the events, but NEVER admitted to rape.
When info was being spread, Melanie thanked her fans for revealing Timothy’s false statements.
On December 22nd, 2017, Melanie released a track called “Piggyback” exclusively on SoundCloud, to not make any profit.
She entails about the people she’s encountered in her life, many of whom have back-stabbed her, “piggybacking” off of her fame.
When demanded for proof, Timothy shared an image of Melanie in handcuff/blindfold from a lover’s kit they bought at the store — this was failed to be mention initially.
In interviews, Heller describes it as a game meant to be funny until Melanie supposedly took it too far. twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
In context, Melanie (+ perhaps her team) opened Twitter to an allegation that (*in that photo*) she was pressuring another party into engaging in sexual activity, when it was not the case, as Timothy herself stated there. The game was intended to be friendly.
Melanie’s statement is vague, but does not state she thought Timothy wanted to have sex with her. She stated that what her and Heller “shared was a close friendship” to assert that sexual relations from Timothy did not occur and the game in that image was a friendly joke.
On December 30th. 2017, Timothy Heller shared a video of her iCloud.
Timothy alleged the assault occurred on June 25th. When the image is put into context with Timothy’s accusation, the date does not align. Melanie was touring that day. Timothy stated she looked at her iCloud date to determine it was June 25th, but many evidence points to May 6th.
In her initial statement, Timothy fails to mention the purchase of the lover’s kit or any indication that it was being played before the assault. This shows she deliberately used a friendly game to paint a narrative that is false, not that she had an unclear memory.
Timothy said Melanie had tried contacting her a few minutes after the allegations were sent out. Yet in another interview, Timothy contradicts herself, stating Melanie never contacted her.
Lastly, Globelamp (an ex-friend of Heller) exposes Timothy through a series of text messages between the two, as well as a video explaining how Melanie tried contacting Timothy prior, though ignored her because she thought it was “funny.” twitter.com/i/web/status/1…
Anyone still referring to her as a rapist is saying it out of uncertainty, or because they have other reasons to hate Melanie.
I would like to thank @allmylinnbs for helping me piece this thread together. 🤍
