🧵 My first #Otherside experience:
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
This will unpack the second trip and share thoughts about future trips and the multi-year development roadmap.
(1/12)
The Good (1)
The @Improbableio platform once more showed its durability by hosting 7,200+ concurrent users, a decent step up from the 4,500 users joining the first trip.
The team mechanic was brilliant and added real tension and competitive excitement to the game. (2/12)
The Good (2)
For a project that's been in development for under a year, the world looks amazing and has both visual and vertical depth. The power-ups dotted around which gave players increased jump height and speed were fun and made the traversal of the map more playful. (3/12)
The Good (3)
The platform did very well in showcasing the various ways media and content can be deployed. From in-game Cinema screens, in the pic below, to walking with Curtis and listening to his "jokes", and then finally the cutscene with the huge leviathan at the end (4/12)
The Bad
A common complaint I noticed was that not all Team Captains were as engaging. I think this will improve over time as Yuga find the right balance between Captains who have large community audiences and can also direct large groups of people. (5/12)
The Ugly (1)
I shared a guest pass with a friend, and he couldn't join the experience. I'm assuming Deed holders were prioritised, but I've also seen many complain about being 'rugged'. We need an Otherside Client application which will decrease the streaming load (6/12)
The Ugly (2)
My region wasn't supported and I had to use a VPN to join the trip. I can appreciate that @yugalabs has increased the number of regions supported and that there are regulatory risks they are managing. Hopefully, in the long term, these issues are resolved. (7/12)
Future trips and rewards
I wasn't on Team Glacier and didn't get the helmet prize. But considering the @OthersideMeta tweet below I'm hoping that we at least got to keep all the blobs we collected and that they are an in-game resource. (8/12)
Next up we will have the 'Legends of the Mara' - A stand-alone 2D experience powered by @apecoin. I wonder what we will find... and what we get to keep. (9/12)
In closing: The comparisons to Fortnite will become a primary debate. Especially since Creative 2.0 has launched giving development teams the opportunity to create custom experiences for 40% rev share. We need to keep in mind that Fortnite has a 5-year public headstart. (10/12)
(11/12)
The Otherside development has only just begun and already looks very promising after a year. Fortnite started development in 2011 and it was six years before the game was publically playable. We don't give @yugalabs enough credit for how fast they are shipping. (11/12)

If you enjoyed this thread, please retweet the first tweet. I will be doing frequent threads as an Otherdeed holder experiencing the trips and Otherside development over the coming years.
Thanks!
