Sisko steps out of his office. “Jakira.”
Jakira looks up from a console. Worf stands. O’Brien sets his hypospanner down and stands up from an open conduit. Odo folds his arms across his chest.
“Doctor Bashir is waiting for us,” Sisko says.
1/14
“Benjamin,” Jakira says. “You’re not going to do this.”
Sisko steps forward. “You know—I am.”
“You forget that I’ve known you for so long—I know you better than you know yourself,” Jakira claims.
“Jadzia knew me. Kurzon, too,” Sisko says. “Not—you.”
2/14
“Benjamin,” Jakira says. “I—can’t just—die. I’m as much Nerys as Jadzia and Dax.”
“And the Major—survives,” Odo says.
Jakira crouches with her fists clenched. “There’s got to be another way. Clone me and split the clone apart—or—the Chief can—trick the transporter to—”
3/14
“No,” Sisko says. “You—will join me in the Infirmary—now—Old Man.”
Jakira pulls herself up to the second level and breaks for the transporter pad. Worf pursues.
He reaches for her, but she grabs his arm, pulling him over her body and into the hard floor.
4/14
Jakira stands on the transporter pad. “Remember, you’re my Emissary still. Would the Prophets approve of—murder?”
She hits her combadge and beams away.
Worf stands and looks to Sisko. Sisko looks to Odo.
“Odo to security,” Odo says.
5/14
“Lock down all docking ports,” Odo says. “And secure the Promenade. We have someone resisting arrest.”
“Arrest?” O’Brien asks. “Odo, what crime did she commit?”
Odo pauses then steps on a turbo lift. “We’ll find her, Captain.”
Sisko nods. “See—that you do.”
6/14
Jakira appears in the dim candle light of the Bajoran temple.
“My child,” Winn says.
Jakira rolls her eyes. “I have children older than you—Eminence.”
“Forgive me,” Winn says, approaching her. “What a—marvel you are. What peculiar spots upon your face.”
7/14
“You seek refuge in the temple,” Winn says. “But this place is not for one so—tainted by alien blood.”
Jakira’s eyes widen. “Ya know, you really should think of changing professions.”
“Is that so?” Winn asks.
8/14
“You can say the vilest filth as if you’re delivering a blessing,” Jakira says. “You should report the war updates or tell parents their children won’t make it through the operation. Use this—skill—for good.”
Worf enters. “Submit to your fate with honor.”
9/14
“How’s it honorable to commit suicide when your heart still beats and—and your arms are—strong?” Jakira asks.
“If you do not come willingly, I will subdue you,” Worf says. “Jadzia’s story is not yet complete. We—she—has much left to do.”
10/14
A golden mist creeps into the temple. Worf, Winn, and Jakira look around, confused.
Suddenly, the mist coalesces into Odo, his arms firmly around Jakira’s arms and torso. “I’m afraid violence is not permitted within the temple.”
11/14
In the Infirmary, Jakira sits upon a biobed with Odo and Worf by her side.
“I’m sorry, Captain, I cannot perform this procedure,” Bashir says.
“I understand,” Sisko says, picking up the hypospray from a tray.
He stares into Jakira’s eyes.
12/14
“If Jadzia and the Major are really in there,” Sisko say. “You know how—sorry I am.”
Jakira closes her eyes. He presses the hypospray into her neck. He then enters commands into a console. Jakira is replaced by Kira and Jadzia.
13/14
“Worf,” Jadzia says, hugging him.
Kira gets off the biobed. “Do I have to ask?”
“It’ll all be in my security report in the morning,” Odo says, a smile curving his lips.
Sisko nods to Bashir. Bashir nods. Sisko walks out into the frenetic hustle of the lively Promenade.
