I’m early today, yay!
📍Silk Noodles - Shanshui Hotel, Kilimani
Been itching to try this place for ages so when @_wangwe decided to be outside, this became our very belated lunch plan:) The location isn’t hard to find thanks to the big sign right at the entrance. #nairobieats
Ambience wise the place is nothing to write home about which is PERFECT because it means they’re putting all their focus in the food😉 #nairobieats
We got started with some chicken dumplings (1000/), I didn’t know that an order of dumplings meant we get 20 of them😮💨 I’m so used to the 6 we get at Japanese restaurants lol… #nairobieats
Knowing this now & also consulting with our server, you can ask for a mix of 10 & 10, that way at least you get to try different dumpling varieties🥟 #nairobieats
That being said - the dumplings are a nice bite size version, making 20 not seem too many after all😄 they are steamed, not fried and so so good. I always go for pork dumplings but these chicken ones weren’t bad at all, esp with some soy sauce… yum! #nairobieats
Had @truthslinger @swambi also in the mix so those dumplings were inhaled quite quickly amongst the 4 of us lol. We then tried a chicken wing, yes 1😄(200/) & some pork belly (150/). #nairobieats
I found it interesting that they charge per wing and per skewer of pork belly but I like that also so you can decide how many you want instead of getting 6 wings when you only had space for like 3 you know? #nairobieats
That chicken wing was also quite spread out on the skewer lol, I guess ni chicken wing choma😅 It was delicious nonetheless, the Chinese don’t play with their fried chicken wings anywhere in this world👌🏾 #nairobieats
The pork belly comes as cubes on a skewer, it tasted both fried and grilled if that makes sense & it was coated in some spices that really elevated the taste🤤 I’d like to have more of those when I go back:) #nairobieats
For the main meal - we had the Silk Noodles (800/). Did some research and read that silk noodles (lamian) are actually hand-pulled noodles, which are tedious to make but taste much better than the dried version you find in the supermarket. #nairobieats
So you choose a type of noodle and it’s immersed in soup with strips of beef (or without if vegetarian). #nairobieats
Now please note, we had eaten quite a bit already. @_wangwe & @swambi (knowing the size of these bowls) only ordered one to share, meanwhile @truthslinger & I - the newbies, got our own bowls each. We were not ready for the massive serving of noodles that was brought to us😂
A steaming hot bowl of noodles (chose the small noodles), strips of beef & veggies swimming in the soup filling the bowl. It was raining that day so this was the perfect meal to have because it really warms your insides🥹 I really ate it up weuh😋 #nairobieats
I think I’d have liked it to have a bit more spice to it though, some fresh chilies maybe, just to add a kick. Their chilli mix isn’t as hot, barely hot actually so it didn’t do much for me. But that’s the only thing I’d add to make that bowl complete👌🏾#nairobieats
It kind of looks like ramen but Mutua educated us on the differences between this and ramen so it’s definitely not ramen but it’s still a delicious & very filling dish, can’t complain. #nairobieats
Service was meh. The place wasn’t full but getting the server’s attention proved to be a task. What was hilarious was how they presented the bill… Mans shift was clearly done & he wasn’t gonna spend another minute writing out an entire bill please lol…I appreciate the brevity😅
I enjoyed my experience here for my first time, I’d love to go back and try their other meals because I’ve really been looking for good Chinese restaurants in Nairobi & haven’t found one yet so this may be it🙊 #nairobieats
The complex also has a couple of other Chinese restaurants that I’m excited to go try one by one. If any of y’all do go try any of them, lemme know which ones are worth visiting👌🏾 #nairobieats
