The main sighting committee is established in the town of Sudair, 150 kms north of Riyadh which local astronomers say enjoys good elavation and weather to search the moon.

Astronomer Dr Abdullah Khudairi will lead the Commitee.

The Supreme Court the final body which will announce the official results of the search sends its observers to Sudair, Tumair, Riyadh and other cities to observe the search. However the results of Sudair and Tumair are deemed final in recent years

Astronomer Muhammad Al-Thaqafi in a statement to Al Ekbariya TV:

“Allah willing; I expect to see the crescent of Shawwal today from the Tumair or Sudair observatories. Provided they have a clear horizon from obscuring clouds or other factors.”

Astronomer Adel Al-Saadoun in a strong statement:

“It is impossible to see the Crescent this evening..and I challenge anyone who sees it to photograph it as evidence.”

“Oh Allah, make us among the blessed.. and make it easy for us to see.”

MOON UPDATE 🌙: No sightings reported from eastern provinces of the Kingdom a few minutes after sunset, the Supreme Court has been informed

The search in central regions will begin shortly

Dr Abdullah Khudairi responds to dissenters and the Astronomy Center who prematurely indicated that Hilal Shawwal will not be seen today

“The search will start at 6:22 and the crescent WILL be possibly seen at the observatory for about 24 minutes.”
