Born in 1700 during his 20 year tenure as Peshwa he defeated the islamic nizams and the mughals multiple times. He also liberated the konkan coast from the Siddis of Janjira and Portugese rule.
He fought 42 pitched battles and won all of them using great tactics and movement.
He used the Maratha cavalry to conduct "manuever warfare". His troops could live off the land requiring minimum supply and provided great speed
He managed to keep the enemy off-balance and defined the field of pitched battles on his own terms
He mastered guerilla warfare too.
His nizam campaign in 1727 is the greatest example of 17th century guerilla warfare in Bharat

His decisive victory over the mughals in the Battle of Bhopal
Ceaseless wars and military campaigns took a toll on BajiRao Ballad's body and he died in 1740 from a virulent fever in Raverkhedi.
His memorial is enclosed by a Dharmashala and has two temples dedicated to Mahadev and Shri Ram.
