/7 Now and then people ask why we sometimes post pictures of crime scenes that may be graphic to some. I think there's a role for more & less graphic info to share at the right times. Regardless, we must never forget their names & faces, they must never just become numbers!
/ There's no use in just constantly sharing graphic material that ends up being completely ignored because of the extent of the violence etc. But, in my opinion, the biggest reasons for the state of SA is not government or state failure, but due to apathy & silent diplomacy.
/ The fact that we sometimes don't show the world what happens to good men like Mario Nel, (SAPS member shot dead in Motherwell yesterday), or Siphokazi Booi, or Terrence Tegg killed by Clover strikers and children like Mia Botha & Bokgabo Poo, results in people forgetting them.
/ Or like Cleo Diko, whose decomposed body was found under a bed in Mandalay in Cape Town. After paying for private DNA testing to confirm her identity, the state is further delayed the release of her remains to the family. #SayHerName
/ Or Nadia Lotz (32) who was in the passenger seat while her friend drove. Her boyfriend, seated in the back, leaned forward & slit her throat. Sickeningly, he apparently played her favourite song when he attacked. He is also the father of her 3 children. #SayHerName
/ Aaliyah Chingy (20) was murdered in Delft, Cape Town, and her body was found in a shallow grave. Her boyfriend was arrested in connection with the murder and was set to appear in the Bellville Magistrates Court on 4 April 2023. #SayHerName
/7 We must tell their stories and obviously share far more of the good photos, but we must NEVER allow them to become numbers. Once we see them as statistics, we don't only forget them, we lose so much desperately needed compassion for each other. #SayHerName #SayHisName
