"Now, you are going to sit there like a good little hostage and wait for your precious hero to arrive. Got it?" Noctem snarled, his eyes flashing dangerously beneath his golden mask.
Hoseok glared at the villain and struggled against the chains that kept him restrained.
It started off as just a simple, normal day.
He had been eager to meet up with his boyfriend, Namjoon, for a lunch date they had planned together.
With all of the stress from his part-time job and his schooling, Hoseok just really wanted to relax and have a nice time with his boyfriend.
And then the city was attacked.
Again.
Hoseok had been forced to watch as Namjoon hastily said his goodbye before rushing off to help. Of course, Hoseok had known for a long time about his boyfriend's identity as the city's best superhero, but that didn't mean he had to like it.
He was constantly worried about Namjoon's safety and had always keep himself from asking again why it had to be /him/ that saved the day? The answer would remain the same as it had the first time he'd asked.
"Because it's the right thing to do. It can't be anyone else," Namjoon had said and Hoseok resigned himself to being in love with a superhero.
When he managed to make him it home safely, he didn't expect to be ambushed by the very villain that had attacked Seoul.
Noctem.
A wolfish grin and narrowed eyes beneath an intricate golden mask were all he saw before something smashed against his head and his vision went dark.
Now, here Hoseok was, chained to a wall and forced to watch as Noctem paced not too far from him.
The villain hummed a somewhat familiar song as he idly twirled his staff in his hands, as if he didn't have a single care in the world as the city turned to chaos outside this very building.
"He'll come for me! When he notices I'm not home, he'll come find me."
Noctem chuckled darkly and turned to look at him, grinning sharply at Hoseok.
"I hope he does," The villain responded and stepped closer, "I want him to. Attacking the city was just a distraction to get to you."
Noctem extended his staff out towards Hoseok and pressed the handle beneath his chin, tilting his head upwards, "When Monochrome comes to rescue you, he'll have to make a choice."
Hoseok glared at the man in front of him, "What kind of choice?"
Noctem's sharp grin widened as he pulled his staff away.
"I want him to decide whether his love his greater than this wretched city."
Hoseok's eyes widened at the villain's words, "What?"
"Allow me to elaborate then. Monochrome must make a decision that will either save you or save Seoul. It'll be his choice on whether he wants to think with his heart or his head, which is sometimes the hardest decision of all."
"You think he'll listen to you? He'll save me and then save the city, just like I know he will."
The sinister laugh that escaped Noctem startled Hoseok before the villain glared at him.
"You put so much faith in a man who can't seem to make time for someone he claims to love. Monochrome cares more about his life as a superhero than as a normal boyfriend. How many times as he abandoned you in the middle of your dates, hm? +
How many times has he put priority over saving strangers than making sure you got home safe? I mean, I managed to kidnap you in broad daylight all because your little wonderboy decided to rush off to save the day instead of taking you home first."
Hoseok's heart squeezed as he was brutally reminded that he was, indeed, second on his boyfriend's list of priorities. He knew this. He was keenly aware of this when he chose to still date Namjoon when he found out his identity.
That didn't mean it didn't hurt, though.
"I-I..."
Noctem stepped closer to Hoseok and pressed his staff to his chin again to make their eyes lock.
"If I'm wrong and he chooses you, I'll let you go without a fight and you both get to walk out of here alive."
Hoseok hesitates before he asks softly, "And if you're right?"
Noctem's eyes seemed to soften just briefly before narrowing.
"Then he'll betray you and your heart will be /broken/."
~~~
Hoseok didn't know how much time has passed. It felt like hours as he stayed chained to the wall. Any attempts to escape resulted in an amused smirk from Noctem, which only fanned the flame of annoyance he felt inside himself.
Neither had spoken since the villain had told him what would happen if he was right. Hoseok didn't want to admit it, but he began to doubt himself.
He was sure Namjoon would save him, choose him over their home. But if that was true, what was taking him so long?
Did Namjoon really not noticed that Hoseok had been kidnapped? Had he just assumed he had gone home and was safe? Did he even bother to call him to make sure?
His heart ached at the thought that he wasn't as important to Namjoon as he believed.
"Worried your knight in monochromatic armor won't save you?"
The sudden sound of Noctem's voice startled Hoseok from his thoughts before he scowled at the villain.
"He's going to find me soon. I know it!" His voice shook, trying his best to hide how unsure he was.
Noctem chuckled and stood from the chair he had been relaxing in, lightly tapping his staff against his empty palm.
"You sound like you're trying to convince yourself rather than me."
The villain hummed as he paced the room, Hoseok's eyes following his form.
"What do you gain from having him choose between me and the city? What's in it for you?" Hoseok blurted out the one thought that had plagued his mind for some time now. Apparently, it was the correct one as Noctem paused mid step.
There was silence again, which made Hoseok anxious. Noctem glanced over at him before pacing again.
"My reasons are not of importance, my dear," His voice sounded strained and Hoseok noticed him tighten his hands around his staff.
"They are important if it means my life is on the line!" Hoseok glared as the villain snorted and turned to face him.
"You think I'm going to kill you if Monochrome chooses the city over you?"
Hoseok's expression changed from anger to confusion.
"Is that not what you're going to do?"
Noctem's hands squeeze tighter around his staff. If he hadn't been wearing his leather gloves, Hoseok would have seen his knuckles turn white from how hard he was gripping it.
More silence dragged on between them and Hoseok was more confused than ever. He didn't understand what the villain was trying to accomplish. It made no sense.
Other than forcing Namjoon to make a difficult choice and possibly breaking Hoseok's heart in the +
process, he didn't understand what Noctem could possibly gain from this stunt.
"Seriously, what do you get out of this? What is the point of all of this?" Hoseok asked again. When he was met with more silence and Noctem's eyes just watching him, he snapped, "Answer me!"
Noctem then slammed the end of his staff against the floor, the sound echoing throughout the room and effectively silencing Hoseok. The villain sighed and ran a hand through his stark white hair.
"...You," He muttered, "You are the point behind this."
Hoseok stared at Noctem in disbelief, "What? Me?"
The villain lifted his head to lock eyes with Hoseok, his expression forming to one of disappointment.
"Has it really been that long? Long enough that you've forgotten my voice, even if my appearance has changed?"
Hoseok became even more confused. He'll admit that Noctem's voice sounded somewhat familiar, but he had brushed that thought aside and believed it was just because of the times he's heard the villain's voice through videos on the news or the internet.
Now, he was trying to pinpoint why the villain's voice was so familiar, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't place it.
Noctem sighed again, "I guess it has. I shouldn't be surprised since the last time we saw each other you were adamant that you +
wanted nothing to do with me anymore."
Suddenly, something clicked and a little memory played out in his mind.
"𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯'𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦, 𝘩𝘺𝘶𝘯𝘨. 𝘐'𝘮 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦."
"𝘚𝘦𝘰𝘬, 𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦, 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯—"
"𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘱! 𝘐 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦. 𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦!"
Hoseok's eyes widened and his heart began to race as he slowly began to recognize Noctem's voice and the dark brown eyes that stared back at him beneath his mask.
"Maybe this will help."
Without another word, a gloved hand reached up and removed the mask from Noctem's face to rest it on top of his head. Hoseok nearly choked as his breath caught in his throat when he saw who it was standing before him.
"...Jin-hyung?"
Kim Seokjin gave Hoseok a small smile as both hands rested on the handle of his staff, "It's been a long time... Seok-ah."
