Since today is the 40th anniversary of #PieceOfMind thought I would give #IronMaiden fans, 10 facts about the album that many of them probably don't know.
1. The album meant to be titled #FoodForThought could have ended with a very different cover painted by Derek Riggs
2. #FlightOfIcarus was a mixture of a riff that Adrian had, and a demo Dickinson had with a rough version of a song he had written and that Paul Samson had turned down for Samson.
3. The first song that was finished for the album was #TheTrooper
4. The Floating hand on the back cover comes from the #SteelClaw the most popular comic book anti–hero in the UK, first published by Valiant comics in October 1962 and that influenced Riggs artwork as you can see.
5. The first song that was recorded for #PieceOfMind was 'Flight Of Icarus' but the first rhythm section recorded was for 'Where Eagles Dare'
6. When they were filming the promo video for #FlightOfIcarus the director tried for a while to capture on camera, the image of Nicko showing a brain while lightning struck behind him. He kept trying and trying until they gave up.
7. #QuestForFire inspired by the 1982 movie of the same name which is a cinematographic adaptation of the novel Quest for Fire by J.H. Rosny aîné (1856–1940), has lyrics that Bruce found so funny, that he kept fluffing up the vocal takes through laughing so much.
8. The photoshoot for the album (and the back of the Flight Of Icarus single) took place at St. Ouen manor in Jersey. For the shoot, 3 antique daggers were bought and a chef cooked the vegetables and a sheep's brain (yes, that's a real brain in the silver platter)
9. The official start of the tour was in the City Hall in Hull, but the unofficial start of the tour was a secret gig the band played at Gustav–Siegle–Haus on April 28, under the moniker 999 and the inverted morons!
