With the horrible air quality from #ABWildfire I’ve put some MERV13 rated furnace filters in my windows so we can get clean, cool air in the house. It filters pollution out of the air as it blows into the house. Filtrete1900’s are MERV13. #yeg #yyc
To fill the large gap on top I cut a piece of cardboard and duct taped it to the filter. Used some peel & stick weather stripping along the edges of the filter & cardboard. So it’s easy to take in and out.
I’ve also got #corsirosenthalbox and HEPA filters running inside the house. I’ve made a variety of types over the years using different fans & filters. Lots of size and noise options.
Updates: when it is really smoky out one pass through an air filter isn’t enough. You’ll need layers. Put more air cleaners near the window. Or close off the room with the window filter and stick air cleaners in then open door when air cleaned.
Take out the window filter when it rains bc a wet filter is ruined. It looks fine but doesn’t work well anymore. Lesson learned the hard way 🫤
To get more air flow through the window filter add a fan. It can be on the inside blowing in or in another window blowing out. Here is an example. Mark has an upstairs window blowing out to get rid of hot air. Filters in the patio door on main floor.
You can use a flexible dryer duct and put in the window (like a portable air conditioner has). Then connect it into a DIY air cleaner. Then you don’t need to worry about rain ruining the filter. Excellent example:
