A review of blogs from @Stopthewar. They deny Ukrainians agency, exclude Ukrainian voices (blocked UA accounts tagged in this thread), often side with Russia and actively spread disinformation. Most offensively they pretend to be friends of Ukrainians. @ucu

Wrongly states that Crimea wanted to be part of Russia. Ignores history including the Crimean Tatars deportation by Stalin, ignoring the return of Tatars to Crimea once Ukraine gained independence.

Introducing our first Ukrainian voice to counter this nonsense

“US-backed Maidan revolt overthrowing elected President...spearheaded by neo-Nazi militias”
“Putin is also a proud man who has been stung by his vilification over the Ukraine crisis which he feels was forced on him….” +

Above article fails to acknowledge that Yanukovych fled to Russia.
Reports to journalists of social media posts - "anti-Maidan supporters were calling for everyone to gather and crush the unification march."

“Ukrainian politics are divided between Ukrainian and Russian-speaking people.”
For a nuanced and historical look at language in Ukraine

“… seeks to embrace the linguistic and ethnic diversity of the country it will forever be an unstable place.” @jeremycorbyn
Ukraine was not unstable for almost 30 years. Some diverse voices from Ukraine

“Ukraine declared itself a nuclear-weapons free country... pressure to come into the EU and NATO military orbit" @jeremycorbyn
Does not mention the Budapest Memorandum. The Euromaidan protests were over joining the EU not NATO.

“Fallacy: There exists a “Ukrainian people” who yearn to escape centuries of Russian influence and join the West.”
Polls show a desire to be closer to the west. "They are not of a single mind." This could be said about any country.

“... strongly influenced by extreme nationalist and even semi-fascist street forces, turned violent.” It became violent after the police shot at protestors. The article mentions one radical political party’s involvement - all opposition parties were involved.

Dog Whistle alert: “Ukrainian people” is a way to deny genocide. You can't kill off a people if they don't exist.

“… impossible to wave the flag for nations that propagate variations of ethnic and Christian nationalism… the Baltic States had the highest murder rate of Jews in …. a quarter of all Jews murdered in the Holocaust, came from Ukraine.

Dog whistle: Eastern Europeans are Nazis that do not deserve protection. Does not acknowledge the repression from the Soviet Union. The proximity of these countries to Germany or that 4.5 million Ukrainians served in the Red Army in WW2. Follow @BadBalticTakes

Pawn – Flashback to classmate who failed two grades telling the Ukrainian student at the top of her class they had never met a smart Ukrainian.

Gorbachev did not make the promise. Expansion is the wrong term Russia needs to stop invading neighbours.
