In today's #dailysoup, I'll introduce an Indonesian university academic, "Russia Watcher", and historical revisionist, Ahmad Fahrurodji.

He's best known for his pro-Russia peepotalking points, one of which sparked attention from the Ukrainian ambassador to Indonesia.

1/18

Fahrurodji currently serves as a permanent lecturer at University of Indonesia on something like "Russian Studies". He is also known as one of the "Russia Watchers" in Indonesia.

He gained the scholarly-looking "Dr." title in the university in 2017.

2/18

Fahrurodji has been teaching "Russian studies-related" subjects for a long, long time, like since 2008. Examples of topics include Russian history, Russian language, Russian culture, and even "Russian Ethnicity and Nationalism in Russia".

3/18

Moreover, Fahrurodji's major works specialise on Russian history, culture, and society.

One example can include his academic research paper related to something like "Indonesian foreign policy towards the Soviet Union during the times of Stalin and Khrushchev".

4/18

Fahrurodji took his masterals at the Moscow State University from 1997-00, in which he observed the development of Russian Muslims.

Note that the current university president of Moscow State University supports Russia in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

5/18

Fahrurodji spewed a "Russia-did-it-first" peepotalking remark when he claimed that "Islam entered Russia earlier than in Indonesia cuz it reached the city of Derbent, Dagestan, during the 7th century".

6/18

Contrary to his claims, Derbent was just another obscure fortress during the 7th century, and it went under the control of the Arabs in 728.

Moreover, Russia didn't exist yet during that time, and it was in the year 1813 when Derbent first went under Russian control.

7/18

In Fahrurodji's 2018 article about the Douma chemical weapons attack, he peepotalked about something like "the excuse that the chemical weapons attack was carried out by al-Assad was fabricated by the US so that it could attack Syria", called it a "sudden attack".

8/18

Then, after some anti-West peepotalking, Fahrurodji proceeded to labelling the Douma chemical weapons attack as a "hoax", peepotalking about how the "hoax is used so that the US can get involved in Syria again".

9/18

Contrary to Fahrurodji's claims, the OPCW made it clear that the Syria Arab Air Forces under al-Assad is the one behind the Douma chemical weapons attacks.

10/18

Then, Fahrurodji proceeded to peepotalking about the Skripal poisonings, claiming something along the lines of "the Skripal poisonings are a hoax made by the British government to accuse Russia and use it as an excuse to expel Russian diplomats".

11/18

In 02.24.22, the exact day when Russia invaded Ukraine, Fahrurodji spoke at a virtual conference in which Dr. Vasyl Hamianin, Indonesia's ambassador to Ukraine, was one of its reactors.

After doing some Google Translate, I noticed blatant pro-Russia peepotalking from him.

12/18

Fahrurodji peepotalked about the infamous pro-Russia claim that "Ukraine violated the Minsk Agreeements, and Russia wanted to invade Ukraine cuz it's feeling scared of rising NATO dominance in Europe".

13/18

Then, Fahrurodji suggested something along the lines of "in order to resolve the conflict, Ukraine should acknowledge its Russian cultural roots cuz it was originally a part of Russia".

14/18

Fahrurodji said that "Indonesia should take place in the Russia-Ukraine peace process".

Dr. Fahrurodji, what do you mean when you say "peace process"? Are you referring to this certain proposal from Prabowo that "there should be a DMZ in Ukraine"?

Fahrurodji's pro-Russia peepotalking remarks in his presentation sparked a furious reaction from Dr. Vasyl Hamianin, who called his remarks as something like "Soviet communist propaganda coming straight out of Putin's handbook", telling him to "read a history book and...

16/18

...study what happened during the build-up to WWII".

Moreover, Fahrurodji's pro-Russia peepotalking remarks are debunked by @P_Kallioniemi's #vatniksoup, especially this entry:

17/18

In December 5, 2017, Fahrurodji was with an Indonesian vatnik, Connie Bakrie, in a forum peepotalking about a "formation of an Indonesia-Russia Strategic Partnership".

Fahrurodji is more of a "Russian historical revisionist" rather than a "Russian watcher".
