As a #LoanCharge victim I am confused about the claims being made in respect of promoters of schemes caught by Loan Charge. @keithmgordon I believe you did a thread on this so help me out if you can. OK here we go, please read to the end & retweet for max exposure.

2. In 2019 @Jesse_Norman, the FST at the time, when asked why HMRC were not going after Promoters said “unless they’ve done something that is actually illegal it is very hard". Based on this you wouldn't expect promoters to face court or prison #LoanCharge

@Jesse_Norman 3. So you can imagine my surprise when I received a letter from the current FST Victoria Atkins stating that promoters connected to #LoanCharge & DR schemes had received a total of 100yrs custodial sentences. If promoters broke no laws how can this be true?

@Jesse_Norman 4. As sadly 10 people have committed suicide due to #LoanCharge policy I would expect the current FST to have got to grips with facts regarding Loan Charge & not to regurgitate mistruths fed by @HMRCgovuk. I find the claim that promoters have been jailed difficult to believe.

@Jesse_Norman @HMRCgovuk 5. I wrote to my MP @andrealeadsom in May '23 asking for names of promoters who had been imprisoned, this info would be in the public domain & could 1 of them be the person who sold me my scheme? To date I received no reply from my MP despite chasing several times.

@Jesse_Norman @HMRCgovuk @andrealeadsom 6. So I emailed the FST, Victoria Atkins, for this info & received a reply 18/7/23 from @hmtreasury stating they could not provide names of promoters jailed due to HMRC having a statutory duty
of confidentiality under the Commissioners for Revenue & Customs Act 2005

Does anyone else find it strange that in the same letter from @hmtreasury advising they cannot disclose the names of promoters who have been jailed they have a section "...HMRC has published the names of 35 promoters, five directors & 39 tax avoidance schemes" ???

So they can roll out any misleading information to misdirect @HouseofCommons @CommonsTreasury and most important of all #LoanCharge victims? What chance for justice do we have?

I have sent an enquiry to @hmtreasury asking if they can confirm the statement made by Victoria Atkins is true and promoters of #LoanCharge and DR schemes have been jailed. Surely they can confirm this even if they can't supply names. I will update here when I get a response.

MPs should be asking questions if @HMRCgovuk can't justify the #LoanCharge without twisting the truth beyond all recognition. They should be stopping the Loan Charge & conducting a proper investigation. @CommonsTreasury
