Random little facts and details in SZA's music you might not know: a thread.

1. In this rare footage from her Ctrl tour, SZA revealed that Prom was written as an outlet to imagine her only prom.

She said that she went with her mom to Miami on prom night instead, and implied that the 80s pop-esqué sound is homage to the interests she took from her mom.

2. Kill Bill had the working title of "Igloo".

She was also worried the song would sound "too crazy".

3. SZA actually wrote a reference track for Rihanna's "Goodnight Gotham", from her eighth studio album, ANTI.

Rihanna reportedly only wanted the song to be an instrumental, so the lyrics were scrapped.

4. The high pitched instrument at the end of Joni is actually SZA's whistle register.

lol not twitter putting my thread in limbo. hold on.

5. Lizzo helped SZA write some of F2F, and also layer background vocals on the song.

She and producer Rob Bisel said that there's "chipmunked falsetto vocals at the end of the hooks" that are actually Lizzo "pitched up an octave from her original freestyle."

6. The voice whispering at the end of Supermodel is none other than Pharrell Williams himself.

Also, the song was a freestyle and is her favourite track on Ctrl.

7. The Forrest Gump references in Doves in the Wind actually follows up on her older song, Warm Winds.

In Warm Winds, she references Jenny's prayer. In Doves, she follows this by once again referring to herself as Jenny.

8. The late Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s appearance on Forgiveless was pulled from Rodney Jerkin's (Darkchild) own footage for a documentary on his own career.

He was digitizing his footage and found a VHS tape from 1998 that had ODB passing through Jerkins' session and freestyling.

10. SZA often writes from the perspective of characters, actresses and artists that she feels connected to.

e.g: Julia (Roberts), Drew Barrymore, Jodie (Foster), Joni (Mitchell), Louanne Johnson (Michelle Pfeiffer's role in Dangerous Minds) [original title for "Consideration"]

She has been acclaimed by musicians, writers and critics alike for being able to breathe new life into the perception of these figures by providing an interpretation that touches on her own experience.

11. There were three completely different versions of Ctrl.

12. In her interview for Rolling Stone, SZA revealed that she didn't get much hand in what songs made the album, as it was mostly handled by Punch.

"PSA", "Joni", "Boy from South Detroit", "Guard Down", among others all did not make the album despite SZA fighting for them.
