Mostly box office and other dumb movie stuff.

OK, I'm gonna do this.

Here's an ongoing thread of every major and stupidly minor crazy thing that Barbenheimer did at the box office this weekend.

This is the first time in box office history that two movies opened to over $80M each. Hell it's only the FOURTH time two movies opened to over $50M each, and the first time that's happened in a decade. Also the second time one of those openers was co-written by Noah Baumbach

As you can see none of the top openers made it above $100M. Here are the only movies to ever open above $20M the same weekend as a $100M opener. Oppenheimer more than DOUBLED that record!

So what if we JUST look at the top 2 movies in a given weekend? It's only the third time in history that the top 2 movies made $80M+ each, and it required a $180M+ opener from the weekend before. Funny enough in both cases #1 was a Jurassic and #2 was a Pixar.

Is this the biggest top 2 of all time? Technically it's only the fifth biggest, but the four other top 2s it's behind were weekends with the four single biggest openers of all time where the #2 movie made less than $15M. So like, what's the fun in counting those?

OK, a few misc. records for each movie:

Barbie has topped New Moon to score the biggest opening weekend of all time without a single IMAX screen, and it's the first $100M opener w/o IMAX since Breaking Dawn 1 (I used the IMAX Wiki for this, if I missed one lemme know).

Barbie has passed Captain Marvel to score the biggest opening weekend of all time for a movie with a woman director.

Oppenheimer's opening weekend is the second biggest of all time for a biopic, behind only American Sniper ($89.3 million).

Barbie's opening weekend is the 24th biggest of all time, and among [technical] non-sequel/prequels it is the fifth biggest of all time, behind just two MCU starter movies (Avengers, Black Panther) and two Disney remakes (Lion King, Beauty and the Beast).

Oppenheimer's opening is the biggest for an R-rated since Joker in 2019 and the 12th biggest of all time. https://t.co/aoUrVAHiG3the-numbers.com/box-office-rec…

This weekend overall is the fourth single biggest weekend of all time, and only the fourth where the overall grosses topped $300M. https://t.co/iibkou1l7Pthe-numbers.com/box-office-rec…

OK I think that's a wrap, maybe I'll add more later. But since this thread seems to be blowing up I'll leave it off with this link where you can support the creatives that have made this exciting weekend possible so they can keep fighting for a fair deal. actionnetwork.org/fundraising/th…
