What’s happening to Twitter/X and why?
Matt Wallace, the grifter who’s making headlines for spreading Maui-conspiracies, is a great example of how conspirators/grifters now flourish on this platform, and how Musk is a key element.

Matt Wallace makes money of lying. His trick? Baiting X’s owner & most famous user, Elon Musk.
He constantly tweets everything Musk wants to hear: he tells him he’s a hero, that he fights woke & the media, and how everybody loves him.
And it works like a charm:

Musk repeatedly replies to him, which brings exposure to Wallace and gradually promotes him & his account.

People have warned Musk that Wallace is a known scammer. Including people from the DOGE crypto community which Wallace is involved with:

In the past, Wallace knowingly inflated the value of the DOGE coin, so he could buy it cheap an make profit.
So people know he’s a scammer, Musk knows he’s a scammer, but Musk keeps engaging with him. Why?

Wallace keeps getting Musk’s attention because he’s good.
He’s really good.
He knows he can get Musk to reply, if he keeps sucking-up to him, and if he throws in some anti-vax & anti-woke talk, the chances of reply are even higher.
Another trick?

Wallace knows what Musk wants to hear. Musk wants to hear he’s the best Billionaire in the world!
So, Wallace trashes Zuckerberg, Bezos, Cuban and Bill Gates. And now he has Musk in his pocket.
Out of the Billionaires, Bill Gates gets a special treatment:

Because Bill Gates is the gateway to the second part of Wallace’s grifting: Conspiracy theories.
By constantly posting the most outrageous conspiracy theories he gathers more followers and more shares – which on the new X – mean money.

Wallace hit the jackpot this week when his fake claims about the Maui fires went viral.
He knows the images he uses are fake.
He knows he’s lying, like he knew he was lying about the crypto coin value.
It’s his business model.

Besides this new fake, Wallace spreads the ‘Trifecta of Propaganda’ that any self-respected troll must share: Anti-vax, Anti-LGBT & Anti-Ukraine propaganda.
Those 3 topics star in all clickbait & hate-bait profiles, whether they have 1M or 35 followers.

Conspirators like to mix-and-match their favorite topics – because this way they can recruit people who believe one conspiracy to join another one, and get them more engaged.
Putin is fighting transgenders? Ukraine made Covid? Bonus conspiracy points!

Wallace’s world also includes constant anti Obama/Clinton/Biden content, and of course you just know George Soros had to be mentioned.
But him mentioning Soros has absolutely no other extra meaning, right?

Well, Wallace has a loud dog-whistle.
He falsely tweeted about a “Rothschild temple” that doesn’t exist where horrible things happen!!! and claimed “the only outspoken Christian in Hollywood” was poisoned for speaking out just like Kanye.
But I’m sure he meant nothing by that.

To summarize: a known scammer is using his Twitter account to get rich,
And he’s doing it using two simple tricks:
Knowingly spreading lies, but more importantly, sucking-up to one of the most influential people in the public sphere.
