This channel I started in July will generate ~$15-$25k a month.
I do this by identifying viral formats on YouTube by looking at patterns of outliers. Then bringing those over to new niches and topics.
Here is a 7-step guide on how you can do the same!
1. Understanding what my personal definition of a format is.
When I say "format" I'm referring to the stylistic and structural approach to presenting content.
A video topic is content centered around a specific subject, regardless of its format.
2. What is an outlier?
an outlier is a video that receives vastly higher or lower views compared to a channel's usual videos.
3. Topic outliers
Now in my strategy, there are 2 types of outliers.
- Topic outliers: a video that does way better than average because it was a unique idea, or attached itself to a short-lived trend.
or
- Format outliers: A specific and identifiable video format that does way better than average across multiple channels and (preferable) across multiple niches regardless of topic.
4. Understanding the value of an outlier.
Now not all outliers are equal.
If you're looking to start a new channel you preferably want to look for format outliers on channels that have either recently started or have a low amount of uploads.
5. Finding outliers
Now to find an outlier you can use multiple methods.
1. Scroll your YouTube homepage
2. Go through a bunch of keywords on search looking for high view low sub count channels
3. Using tools like is also a good option https://t.co/6Y91YEna0Ynexlev.io
6. Cross-referencing outliers.
Now once you spot a potential outlier format you wanna try to see if this format has worked on other channels and niches.
You do this by taking some of the titles and searching for them in the same or different niches.
7. Implementing the strategy
Now once you have found an outlier that has worked on multiple niches and channels. Either implement it on one of the niches that it has worked on before (make sure the saturation in that niche is low) or apply the outlier format to a new niche.
That's a wrap!
