I appreciate people taking the time to chat in @TwortlesVr's space about such a lightning rod issue. Thank you to everyone who asked a Q, and I'm sorry I couldn't spend more time answering. I crashed & got locked out. Good app, Elon!
I have a few key points I want to deliver.
1. We have implemented and continue to implement changes and improvements to make ripping harder and more painful for those who rip your content. It will never be 100% solved, but we can make it much more difficult.
It's an eternal cat and mouse game.
2. We can't talk about those things very often. Perfect security you can talk about openly! because it's foolproof.
Because of the nature of this particular problem, talking about tech potentially weakens the things we put in place to make it harder. So we stay quiet.
3. We'll never, ever completely solve ripping. If you have an asset that you NEVER want anyone else to have, _do not upload it to VRChat._
I know that sounds terrible, but if you've got something that valuable, do not risk it. This goes for any internet platform.
4. This is an inherently technically difficult problem. As it usually goes with tech problems, the details are important, and the big strokes are mired in misinformation, misunderstandings, and people touting incorrect knowledge as fact.
There is no magic wand.
Finally,
5. We know how important identity is to everyone in VRChat. It's one of our core values. We want to ensure that the identity that you choose to embody remains yours as much as we can, so you can continue to feel safe embodying your identity.
So we'll keep chasing the mouse.
Hopefully I was able to help some people understand this issue.
Important: Nothing new is here, it's the same as it was before. It's way, WAY better than it used to be due to the changes we've made over the past year.
It just happens to be the hot-button topic right now.
also stop sharing the name of the site/discord and posting the name all over the damn place
you're giving them free PR and free clout, that is what they want. 😶 never name them. never feed the trolls. let them starve to death.
also thank you @TwortlesVr for hosting i'm sorry for calling your spaces clickbait but you gotta own it man
