Did you know there is a social credit score on X?

It's called TweepCred

And it's a big reason why your content might not be getting reach

Here is how TweepCred is calculated and what you can do to improve your reputation in the algorithm:

🔶What is TweepCred?

Every time you post. Every time you engage. Every time you have an interaction, your TweepCred is impacted.

TweepCred uses an algorithm that determines your influence based on your interactions with others.

Here is the exact definition from the code:

🔶Let's get into how it's calculated and how it impacts your reach.

First, let's start off with some penalties.

Get marked with any of these penalties, and your reputation is lowered

antigaming is a score that determines if you are attempting to game tweepcred ot not

🔶Now let's get into some boosts

It appears there is a boost for using English

Throughout the code this English UI boost is included in many TweepCred calculations

🔶Being 'offensive' on the platform destroys your reach

Several places in the code has a flag for being offensive

Any time you are marked as offensive or your content is marked as sensitive, your tweepCred is instantly destroyed

Takeaway: don't be a jerk

🔶A single post can destroy your reputation score

Here's something interesting

There is code that basically says a single tweet can destroy you score, but can't help it too much

This means recovering your cred from a mess up will take much longer than actually messing it up

🔶If your score is low enough, nobody will see your content

Here is some code that filters out any content from accounts with a TweepCred below the minimum threshold

If your reputation drops enough, you basically become invisible on the timeline

🔶Being verified prevents you from being marked as spam

If you care about reach, you need to get verified

There are several checks throughout the code that will stop you from getting marked as spam if you're verified

It's worth the $8

🔶Get enough engagement and you're good

There's another factor that will stop you from getting marked as spam: getting enough engagement

If your engagement count is above the filter threshold, it will prevent you from getting marked as spam

🔶It's critical you avoid getting marked as spam

Getting marked as spam is a death sentence for your content

Your content is instantly removed from search results if you get that tag

This makes the blue check even more critical

🔶Your followers/following ratio REALLY matters

If your followers is low compared to your following, your reputation is destroyed

It's critical you maintain a healthy ratio

It's also important you don't unfollow too quickly, people have been banned for this

🔶Another factor in your tweepCred is account age

If your account is below 30 days old, your cred is really low

This could be a big reason why newer accounts feel like nobody sees their content

One important note here is Elon has said in a reply to my post that TweepCred is on the way out

Here's my concern: it's deeply woven into the X codebase

It would take an entire codebase refactor to get rid of it

The algo is heavily dependent on it

This will take a long time

End of the day it comes down to this: if you want to maintain a high TweepCred, don't be a jerk.

Don't spam.

Don't offend.

Create content that encourages discussion and engagement

If you want to create on X, you need to play by X's rules
