🇷🇺‼️This is the new leader of the Wagner group‼️
According to many sources, Prigozhin's successor could be 61-year-old Andrei Troshev, better known as "Sedoy" ("Sit").
Exactly 18 months since the start of the war in Ukraine and a day after the alleged death of Wagner's leader👇
Yevgeny Prigozhin, who, according to Russian media, died in a plane crash in the Russian region of Tver, there is already widespread speculation in Russia about his successor.
As the newspaper Kommersant writes, even earlier, five days after the failed rebellion of the Wagner 👇
group, Putin met with Prigozhin and a number of senior Wagner fighters, and in the context of uncertainty about the future of the Wagner group, Putin proposed that they be commanded by a senior commander named Andrey Troshev instead of Yevgeny Prigozhin. 👇
Putin then offered Wagner's fighters several options for continuing their work, including the possibility of continuing to fight under Troshev. According to European Union sanctions documents, Andrei Troshev goes by the nickname "Sedoy" (Sit), 👇
and is a retired colonel who holds the position of executive director of the Wagner Group.
He was born in April 1953 in Leningrad, today's Saint Petersburg, Putin's hometown, in the former Soviet Union, where he graduated from the Artillery Academy. 👇
European Union documents detail Troshev's role as "chief of staff" in the Wagner Group's operations in Syria, where the group supported the Syrian government under Bashar al-Assad.
"Andrei Troshev directly participated in the Wagner Group's military operations in Syria." 👇
He particularly stood out in the Deir ez-Zor area. "His key contribution to Bashar al-Assad and the Syrian regime," the documents said.
Troshev was closely associated with several prominent figures in the Wagner Group, including founder Dimitriy Utkin (who reportedly died 👇
on the plane with Prigozhin). A veteran of many wars, Troshev was in Afghanistan during the Soviet-Afghan War and distinguished himself in the North Caucasus, particularly in the Chechen War, while serving in the Russian military.
He was also the commander of SOBR, 👇
the special rapid response unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. For his services, Troshev was twice awarded the Order of the Red Star for services in Afghanistan. 👇
In 2016, he received Russia's highest honor, "Hero of Russia," for leading the attack on Palmyra in Syria against Islamic State terrorists.
