I just read an announcement that JeffCo CodeRED Emergency Alert phone system will be no more starting in October. Short notice, huh?

"Coincidentally" FEMA and the FCC have planned a "National emergency alert test" for October 4th.

Much of JeffCo is rural; I wonder how many people will actually know about this? Those depending on this service for tornado, flooding, storm alerts, etc will be SOL.

Now, to be notified of the aforementioned, residents will be required to download an app called Everbridge. I think of the elderly many of who still do not own a cell or smart phone.

This third-party app contracted by the government was first installed 5 months ago for iPhone and has a whopping number of 3 ratings submitted.

It can track you even if your phone is off and has features such as Contact Tracing and provides the user the ability to anonymously report suspected crimes and suspicious looking people.

Everbridge is a global corporation and has a #PPP with the government. Everbridge is obligated to provide user data upon request without warrant if the DOJ claims it falls under the Patriot Act.

Since it is a PPP, Everbridge has no obligation to honor FOAI requests - even though tax payers purchase the services via the government.

Financially speaking, "Institutional investors hold a majority ownership of EVBG through the 94.36% of the outstanding shares that they control. This interest is also higher than at almost any other company in the Packaged Software industry."

Guess who Everbridge's top two owners are?

I for one will NOT be downloading this app.
I advise you to do your own research. In fact, it would be worth it to reach out to any #UK and #EU connections. At the tail end of shut-downs, residents in these countries were subject to a Emergency Alert Test pushed to their smartphones. They were required to have a special app as well.
However, though it was done under the auspices of "safety", their government was nefariously getting phone data and installing a tracker on their phones.

On October 4th, my existing emergency alert 'options' will be set to 'off.' My phone will be turned off during the time period of the alert. Those across the pond who were aware of the real purpose before the alert was transmitted took those actions.

I will have other means of knowing when emergencies are happening in my area - such as my subscription thru @NewsKlw - and I will not have to give up my privacy in order to do so.
