Not one word in this Guardian article about the bloody 1862 MASSACRE of 650+ White settler families (including 100 children) in their homes by Native tribes, which resulted in the hangings.

“Over 600 victims. If it were to take place today and the same proportion of people were killed, there would be over 15,000 dead. It was a huge event.”

One of the few photographs taken during the uprising, this poignant photo is of the Missionary Party of about 35 escaping from the Dakota on August 19.

The vast majority of the settlers who were killed were unarmed non-combatants – men, women and children – who were simply trying to escape the Dakota.

Settlers’ suffering seems to be forgotten.

“The descendants of the Dakota have been allowed to express themselves on behalf of their ancestors without being held accountable for their actions.” nujournal.com/opinion/letter…

Perhaps I’ve just overlooked it, but I cannot find a single reference to the 650+ white settlers who were massacred in this Univ of Minnesota section about the Dakota war. The massacre is simply called “raids”. cla.umn.edu/chgs/holocaust…

“More American children intentionally killed by Dakota warriors in 1862 than have been slain in any other conflict in US History.” dakotavictims1862.com/Family_and_Fri…
