MERS
MRSA
AIDS
SARS
All acronyms
COVID - not really an acronym, per CDC definition
An acronym is a kind of abbreviation, but not all abbreviations are acronyms.
In an acronym - like SCUBA, for example - each letter stands for a word, and the letters are pronounced as a word.
I believe COVID-19 may be an acronym for an event.
A live-exercise
A military operation
It's code.
DoD or intelligence shorthand
Something to that effect
That, in my opinion, is why language like "before COVID" and "when COVID hit" was used and was adopted by the populace.
I do NOT think it’s “Certificate Of Vaccination ID 2019”
That’s not really an acronym
It’s not event-oriented
It’s not subtle
It’s not descriptive of what occurred in spring 2020
The meaning also has to be general enough to apply to (potentially) other operations
So COVID-19, but there could be/could’ve been a COVID-18, COVID-15, etc…depending on what it means
Those operations wouldn’t have all needed to involved the same things
To be clear, I am opining.
I am speculating.
I am musing.
I’m thinking out loud.
I’m exercising my free press & free speech rights.
I don’t need to be policed by a community, or suppressed by the platform.
No one needs to be “protected” from seeing my ideas.
COVID could mean something like
Covert Operation for Virus-Initiated Disaster
Coordinated Operation on Vaccine-Induced Disease (referring initially to the flu shot?)
Such terms could apply to different efforts and in different ways
Alt:
Condition Of Vaccine Induced Disease
IMO, this isn’t it.
Because this isn’t an actual acronym
Acronyms have one word per letter
Like this:
OWID = Our World In Data
Condition of Virus Induced Disease is probably my best guess, based on what all versions of WHO guidance for coding U07.1 deaths says and doesn't say
Tested for SARS-CoV-2.
Okay, fine.
But what's a "COVID-19 infection"?
"Tested for COVID-19 by PCR" 🧐
Here's are some ICD questions for @WHO:
Which "virus identified" (or "not identified")?
Any virus?
Any virus that contributes to "COVID-19"?
What does COVID actually mean? @DrTedros
This might work too, esp if a true acronym doesn't matter.
CoVert [&] OVert Infectious Diseases
Also very broad, could include a lot of things, & has a military vibe.
Great for plausible deniability later.
"We WERE telling the truth, Senator. We said they were COVID deaths."
Well-intentioned - and I am not suggesting Rep Massie has consider what COVID may stand for, but do you see how, if it’s a broad term, this could apply over many years?
Alt
Coronavirus, Opioid, [or] Vaccine-Induced Death
Asking @WHO about alt meanings of COVID-19 and the language in ICD-10 and ICD-11
