Stranger Things Play Thread 🧵

Lot of this is already out there but here is my notes from play and what I can remember enjoy ! ❤️

SPOILERS WARNING 🚨

Flashes of reports on tv about The Philadelphia Experiment (project rainbow) this was carried out in middle of the Second World War.

It starts off in 1940 (something) you can see a US naval ship looking out for nazi.

They start to hear noises of creatures and then suddenly they hit and ship sinks into another dimension. There are bats flying around and red storm clouds and Demogorgon come out and starts to attack people from the ship

There is 1 survivor this will later turn out to be Dr.Brenner dad (marine) who on his deathbed tell him the real truth of what happens and the obsession begins

Story resurfaced a decade later against the backdrop of flying saucer craze which swept through the united states in the post war years fuelled by newspaper headlines

Credit rolls and theme tune starts to play it’s just like episode of stranger things.

Chapter One - The Girl from Nowhere

Starts with a radio show by bob newby that nobody listen to (so his sister Patty teases him about)

The stage is layout in circles that move around. Bob being in the centre of it awhile his sister being another circle off to the side. The circles move in different directions at times (this was used a lot was super brilliant)

Bob try’s to end his radio deciding a song to Joyce but is interrupted by Patty who says she never gonna listen to the show.

Bob newby dad principal newby is very cruel towards Patty. Patty has a comic superhero one (Wonder Woman) and he takes it off her says she shouldn’t be reading that “stuff” then tells her to hurry up get ready for school as she gonna be late and to remember to pray

Party starts her pray except she starts pray to Wonder Woman instead of god

Bob and Patty have a sweet relationship but Patty points out how her dad likes him a lot better than her

Joyce is in bed scene with Lonnie. She talks about wanting to get away from Hawkins. He doesn’t understand why she wants to. He finds a letter offering a possible scholarship (away from Hawkins)

Lonnie says “when we’re you gonna tell me” Joyce said “there was nothing to talk about”

Lonnie then tells Joyce that she try to act like she different and wants to leave but really she like everyone else. That she is one of “us”

James Hopper JR (as we know him as Jim Hopper) is fixing an engine but doesn’t appear to be getting far with it.

Chief Hopper (his farther) is less than impressed. Tells him to get his shit together and that he’s not giving him a lift to school this morning so he better get moving fast or he’s going to be late

Henry and his family arrive in Hawkins. “A fresh start” scene mirror S4 when we see them

Virginia Creel is concerned and scared of her own son.

Henry goes to loft where he listen to radio like el does to concentrates and to connect. He does this a lot thought out the play where he goes into “dream land” mirror the same as el with the black abyss with the water

He also connects with Patty thought the radio where she listening to it.

His mother (Virginia Creel) comes up often to find Henry in loft and is very concerned. Reminds him that they are just “bad dreams”

Henry repeats to himself he is “normal” “just bad dreams” “I am Henry creel”

At somepoint it is revealed that Henry goes missing for 12 hours into another dimension this is where he gets his powers from and connection to mind flayer

Coming back to the start. It’s Henry first day at Hawkins High. Bob dad is the principal who gives Walter Henderson the job of introducing him to the school.

Karen and Ted making out (bit like Nancy and Steve!) they do this a lot thought the play

Ted labels as an idiot and Karen thinking he is

Each character is then introduced from the school. Joyce is rushing around trying to sort out her play and that everybody loves her.

Hopper shoves pass him. “Dad issues” Walter suggests and that he’s a hit with the girls

Walter Henderson teases Henry which he has trouble with. He meets Patty at the lockers who is kind and help with the locker code for him to get in

Patty says she likes (something I can’t remember)and Henry says he likes her lips. After she goes he talks to himself “why did I say that”

Joyce is trying to get people to act in her play called the “Dark of the moon” It’s to help her get the scholarship. Few people have joined. She standing on a stool awhile people sit around her in a circle

She tells them she wants to do something different with this play. It involves witches and would be deemed by Principal Newby as “inappropriate”

She also says if people just looking to have make out sessions to leave so few people then get up and leave

Joyce asks for someone to read lines and then a kiss. Karen is keen but isn’t quite what Joyce is looking for

Steps forward Patty who does a good job. Henry then joins who then go a little off script they start to have conversations about being different and awkward about the kissing scene.

Joyce thinks they are being “creative” says “weird but I like it you both get the job”

Henry in the loft again. His mother and sister Alice are there wondering what he is doing and that they gonna be late for church.

Alice says “who are you that’s not my brother” as if to suggest the mind flayer is currently possessing him. Mother tells Henry to stop scaring his sister

They are at church where Patty part of the choir but before that she is sat in the confession box. She see Henry and she playful asks him to make one.

He talks about not feeling normal and being different. Talks about his “powers” and Patty talking about how he’s a super hero.

Patty suggests that rather than letting the dreams be nightmare to make them nice dreams instead

This goes onto Henry asking Patty to think of song she like to sing rather than what she being asked to

Patty starts to sing the song she wants. Henry encourages her to be more confident which she does slowly. Suddenly everyone in the church singing the same song and it’s a wonderful dream he’s created for Patty

Scene cuts to late night outside “Henderson” selling wine. You see Walter Henderson and Claudia messing around (I think it suggests maybe drinking)

Claudia see her cat in the shop window and notice that the cat feels “scared” Walter thinks Claudia is being silly.

They leave the scene which is when Henry appears. He enters the shop wants to pet the cat. At first seems Henry is being nice to the cat.

But then the lights start to flicker and before we know it the cat is launch into the air and being killed just like Chrissy

The next day at Hawkins Claudia seems to be distress unsure what has happened to her cat. She asks anyone who can find out what happened to her cat get a 100 dollars reward

Hopper overhears this and decides to help. Hopper then asks for bob help by using his camera

Hopper and bob then out late at night with flashlights looking. They detect where the cat might be found

Hopper then digs up a dead “Vecna cat” which they both disgusted with. He asks bobs to take close up photos

There are more animal killings found (Henry is behind these) he is doing this to keep mind flayer happy but it isn’t “enough”

Hopper works out that it has to be someone who is involved in the play. Hopper then suddenly takes an interest in Joyce’s play. Joyce isn’t having it

He casts him as a “villain” character as she says Hopper just needs to be himself to play it (love/hate vibes)

He goes around the investigating and interviewing people. Asking where they were on the night.

He asks Henry but immediately thinks he is innocent. Tell him he doesn’t have the upper body strength

His main suspect is Alan Munson. He is a very unusual character mirroring his son Eddie goth like appearance and is often staying “in character” but hopper doesn’t know this

Alan is in character when talking to hopper talks about sacrificing which makes hopper question him

Joyce starts to notice and pulls Hopper aside asks him what he is doing. Hopper tells Joyce he’s investigating the animals that quicker he can work it out the better it would be for her so that she doesn’t lose her scholarship. Joyce now joins the team 🕵️‍♀️

Joyce explains it isn’t Alan he’s just “in character”

At somepoint in the play ( can’t remember exactly where this is placed) but they are at a dance at melvards and hopper is interviewing people again

Hopper discovered it isn’t Alan munson after all as he gets very upset about his dog that gets killed and is no longer “in character”

Henry and Patty are dancing and share a kiss. They then get shouted at to take that nonsense outside. At this point they giggle, run outside holding hands 🥺🩷

Joyce see this thinks it’s very sweet them kissing says this awhile talking to Bob who’s sat on the side. She says sorry that’s your sister I am talking about.

Bob then says it’s ok and then says something sweet about love and Joyce says aww I never knew you were such a romantic

Once again the moment doesn’t last long as Joyce is pulled away for some reason and is distracted. Bob chance misses again at his chance to tell Joyce how he feels

After this henry has agreed to help Patty find her mother. Patty says it can be a “date”. Patty says her farther is out that night so she be able to come over.

I can’t remember when this happens in the play but Virginia talks to victor about the fact that Henry is seeing Patty and doesn’t like it. Victor says “he’s being a normal teen boy and I think that’s good”

Virginia finds Henry in the loft again Henry becomes increasingly irritated by his mother who is very concerned with his son behaviour.

She like this thought out the play and is concerned for him. She decides that he is no longer allow to do any after school activities. This makes Henry angry and distressed.

He then shows his mother he who he really is and he traps his mother in a nightmare with spiders

As a child his mother was lock in cupboard by her farther and spider in there would scare her. Henry references this like he can SEE his mothers fears ( I believe this is the mindflyer taking over at this point)

As the nightmare he created for his mother is unfolding he asks his mother to look at him as he then grows spider legs from out his back. She screams

all parent’s have met for a meeting that night Henry and Patty agree to go on the date.

Victor Creel attends where he then talks about how his son Henry and his daughter Patty have a romance.

Principal newby is unaware and angry. He ends the meeting and go to find his daughter

Victor is explaining how he’s having nightmares from the war but he is ignored ( I believe Henry/mind flayer is increasing this fear)

Henry takes Patty to the loft there are candles around them. Henry is unsure and says there will need to be rules. Henry uses a blindfold (el ?) and white noise of radio to channel his power

Patty holds his hand for support as the lights start to flash

Hopper and Joyce work out it’s the static/energy is what connects the animal killings. (Lights flashing?)

Hopper and Joyce ask bob to make a device that could detect it. He’s unsure but soon as Joyce ask he seems motivated

The 3 of them team up with flashlights at night trying to find out where it’s coming from and end up at Henry house

This devices requires them to be link together so they walking close together. During this time Joyce and hopper start arguing. Bob picks up sexual tension asks if they’d re together

which leads to them telling each other they not interested in each other in the slightest. Hopper “Your not even my type”

He then seems to list of all the reasons why she is his TYPE although saying that she always go for bad boys

Joyce points out that he acts like tough guy but is just a scared little boy awhile pushing up against his chest

Joyce and Hopper then end the conversation saying the same words. Are they agreeing ? There faces so close they might just kiss …

Cuts when bob has then detected something … They end up at outside Henry house

Henry starts to find Patty mother. She singing at a stardust. however the dream starts to turn into a nightmare. The mind flayer wants Patty. Henry is fighting and tells Patty to leave NOW.

Principal newby finds them in the loft asks what is going on. He doesn’t know what he’s walked into. The vines appear and we see what max does when she see venca in S4

Henry with his powers flys Principal newby up against the wall. He’s about to be killed. Henry somehow manages to stop but not before he has taken out his eyes and he falls though the floor

Hopper, Bob and Joyce run over to him. It doesn’t look good. Bob asks if somebody can give mouth to mouth. Hopper cut his arm earlier which is apparently enough of an excuse. Joyce volunteers although feels unsure she knows what she doing.

Just as Joyce is about to principal newby wakes up. Joyce says “oh thank god” with relief

Hopper, Bob and Joyce don’t see exactly what happened but notice this is no accident.

After this event his mother asks for Dr.Brenner help (not the first doctor she has sent Henry too)

Henry is at the lab and asking the man “who are you” and he says “I am dr.Brenner”

That is I think everything from part 1 ❤️ will post part 2 once I have collected my thoughts again and had time to write it out some more !! Stay tuned
