🧵: @Chuck_Ritter92 is a decorated Special Forces soldier who has served the U.S. for many years. His life was nearly derailed after @JackMurphyRGR published a report last year that accused him of unprofessional conduct involving a soldier's significant other. The Army's investigation found none of the accusations were true.

Ritter thought he could put the ordeal behind him after providing Murphy with the investigation's findings, but Murphy has not updated the original story for over a year. Ritter, who is about to retire from the military, says the article has harmed his career options in the civilian world.

Murphy reported on allegations Ritter was sexting with a solider's spouse after Ritter had disciplined the soldier while they were deployed in Syria. Not only did the Army find the allegations to be false, but the soldier, Daniel, is going on the record to say none of the accusations were true.

The first part of Murphy's report is true. Ritter had an in-person conversation with Kathryn Elizabeth Leyen at a bar, where she accused him of trying to destroy Daniel Regeimbal's career. Ritter denied he was trying to do that.

Where Murphy's story starts to fall apart is when he said Ritter "slid into Kate's DMs."

Murphy reported he saw messages between Ritter and Leyen that proved sexting was happening. But Ritter and Regeimbal say those had been created to make conversations that never happened look like they happened.

“Kathryn has a long history of fabricating messages,” Regeimbal said.

He knows this because for over a year, he says Leyen was texting him as her father, who claimed Ritter was out to get him. That is why he believed Ritter was also trying to sleep with his wife.

Here is the memo from Ritter's commander at the time of the investigation, where he states all of the accusations against Ritter were found to be "false and unfounded."

What happened during the investigation? A source familiar with the interview Leyen had with the military said she instantly became defensive and could not keep her story straight.

“She was dancing around the questions to avoid answering them.”

“It was very productive because it revealed some of the discrepancies in her story.”

With the case closed and Ritter's name cleared, he sent the info to Murphy so the story could be updated. Murphy's response? Silence.

Murphy only began to respond to Ritter this year after he realized Ritter had a full understanding of what happened.

Out of frustration, Ritter admitted to threatening to sue Murphy for defamation. After that, Murphy said he would only be willing to talk about the case if Ritter agreed not to sue.

“If we both agree to sign a covenant not to sue, then we can happily put that stumbling block behind us and move on. At that point I’d be happy to talk to you, have you on my podcast to tell your story, or whatever else,” Murphy emailed to Ritter.

When I reached out for comment, Murphy said because Ritter had threatened to sue "it unfortunately killed any further communication." He hinted the story would be updated during a lawsuit "but that's not a question I can answer."

When I asked Murphy why it would have to take a lawsuit to provide an important update to his story, he simply said I would have to “direct that question to the lawyers..."

The story got more interesting after I reached out to Kate Leyen for comment via email. She accused me of being Regeimbal’s mother. I had to set up a Zoom call to prove I was not.

The full story can be read here. There's a lot to the story but long story short, Murphy did not provide an important update even after he was approached by multiple people.

In part 2 of the story, Ritter told me having his name dragged through the mud publicly with false accusations was the most stressful situation he had ever been, despite being in combat for years —> juliorosas.substack.com/p/part-2-smear…
