In this thread I share what I saw and heard yesterday about a terrible war crime against the people of a 🇺🇦 village.

This is the door to the basement of the school in #Yahidne, a village in #Chernihiv oblast.

And this is a stairway to hell. On 3 march 2022 367 citizens were forced by ruzzian soldiers to go down to the basement of the school and were incarcerated until the end of the month.

They staid with hundreds in two rooms, the youngest was 1.5 months old. Many elderly were already sick
before incarceration. They were not only denied food and medicine. They could never really breath because of lack of air.

The first person died after 5 days in the basement because the lack of oxygen in the room where not all could lay down but had to sit or even to stand in the narrow room. Many had water in the legs, so awfully that their skin bursted.

During the incarceration 10 people died. The dead bodies remained in the basement. When decomposition began and people suffered from the stench, the ruzzian soldiers allowed that some of their prisoners would bury the corpses.

During the funeral the ruzzians started shooting on the
prisoners. For fun. They had to jump into the graves with the corpses to protect themselves.

The ruzzian soldiers let their ruzzian “newspapers” in the basement to make their prisoners aware that their army had liberated Ukraine from Nazi government and invasion was successful.

Whatsoever the ruzzian guards tried there were no traitors in Yahidne, not in the basement, not among those hiding in the village. The children refused to learn the ruzzian anthem but wrote
the Ukrainian anthem on the walls of their prison.

This is the calendar of the incarcerated. Today we know 10 people died in the basement. 15 people were shot outside by the ruzzians. Being
kept in the basement, people from Yahidne tried to not forget the time, what day was and what happened. On 30 March their soldiers freed them.

The Reckoning @TRPUkraine Project and Public Interest Journalism Lab @PIJLab have documented this unbearable, terrible war crime, try to bring perpetrators to court. We show the doc film “The Most Frightening Day of My Life”

In Yahidne people are not only their houses but also the school. They will make it a place where people will commemorate and understand how ruzzian soldiers tortured and also killed them.
