/24 In this SALO I will talk about the position of Pro Russian propagandists and defectors, and how many have recieved a grim faith. We will focus on those that paid a heavy price for chosing team Russia. I’ve only added the names of confirmed deaths.
/24 In 2018 a carbomb ended DPR prime minister Olexandr Zakharchenko’s life and wounded DPR finance minister Alexandr Timofeyev. Both had been part of OPLOT a Russian militant brigade in Kharkiv before. Zakarchenko had deemed the killing of Ukrainian civilians as "no problem”
/24 On the 20th of April 2022 One of the first main warbloggers was killed in the name of Valeri Kuleshov. He had been part of militias in the past and was an active propagandatool for Kiril Stremousov (who we will mention later).
/24 Dmitry Savluchenko was a Kherson collaborator who worked for the militairy administration of the Russian autorities. He was assasinated in June 2022 by the use of a bom.
/24 July 2022 marked the death of Yevgheny Yunakov, a adminstrator of a small city just outside Kharkiv. Yunakov had previously worked as an attorney under Vasily Sorokin who also chose the Russian side. Yunakov was killed by an explosive device that was put under his car.
/24 Oleksiy Kovalev was a Ukrainian politician that switched to the Russian side, chosing Kherson as his new grounds. His betrayal didn’t go unpunsihed, as he was shot at his home. He passed away in August 2022. Putin awared him the 'order of courage' after his death.
/24 The invasion of Kherson was a careeropportunity for some. Marginal politcian Kiril Stremousov became a leader of the newly occupied territory. He proclaimed his love in a controversial poem stating “Everwhere were our tanks are is Russia” A 'strange' carcrash took his life.
/24 In Starobilsk in occupied Luhansk a bomb ended the life of Askyar Laishev. He had defected to Russia in 2014 and benefitted from the move becoming head of the police.
/24 The carbombattack that killed Darya Dugina in Moscow gained lots of attention. She was building on her propagandacareer by promoting the war. Father Alexander Dugin is better known, he has influenced Putin with some of his ideas like Novorossiya (the return of lost lands).
/24 Maxim Fomin better known as warvoice Vladlen Tatarsky was killed in a cafe in Saint Petersburg. A giftstatue contained a bomb that took his life. A SPb local was apprehended for the crime. Was she guilty? It was suspicious that all security camera's in the area didn't work
/24 Mikhael Luchyn was a close friend of ‘Tatarsky’. He ran the “Misha in the Donbass” propagandaseries. Earlier in the war Ukrainian hackers had ordered $25.000 in sex toys for Luchyn. Luchyn who rejoiced the death of Ukrainians, was taken out by the Ukrainian militay.
/24 Rostislav Zhuralev, who worked for Kremlin controlled newsagency RIA Novosti, went to do a newsitem on Ukrainian used clustermunition. He stayed a little too close to his subject as he was killed by the same thing he reported on, July 2023.
/24 The plane of the bosses of the Wagnergroup crashed in august 2023. “A stupid accident with handgranades on board” according to the Kremlin. But it’s more like Utkin & Prighozin were taken out. Despite being open neo nazi there were statues raised for the "warhero's".
/24 In November 2023 Ukraine committed a strike in Zhaprozihya Oblast. Russian warcorrespondent Boris Maksudov working for propagandachannel Rossiya24 was caught in between the fire. A video on firleregiment 503 was his last feat as scrapnel of a grenade ended his life.
/24 In January 2023 Gleb Kozlov and his tank were taken out. The tankcommander had built up quite a crowd of fans with 14 thousand followers on Telegram. Before his dead Kozlov had stated towards the Ukrainians “Please leave our land or you will be killed.”
/24 In 2019 Ilya Kyva had unsuccesfully ran for president in Ukraine. The MP moved to Russia where he jumped on Russias bandwagon, often appearing in propagandshows. Ukraine plotted to deal with the treator and saw an opportunity in january 2023...
/24 Ukrainian born Mikhael Filiponenko joined a Luhansk militia in 2014 and sided with Russia. He made a career within the LNR republic commanding torturecamps and enforcing Russian propaganda. The Ukrainian secret service stated they killed him by a carbomb in November 2023.
/24 The SBU also used a carbomb for Russian backed Luhansk Republic deputy Oleg Popov. Popov had a role in building op juridicial framework of the LNR next to his political work as he was backed by Russia. The Ukrainians settled the score for his treason with a bomb.
/24 January 2024 marked the dead of conspiracy propagandist Gonzalo Lira. The American had died in a Ukrainian prison due to a unhealthy lifestyle and deterioting health. He landed himself in prison by multiple offences like syping and illegally entering the country.
/24 Propagandist Alexander Rybin had made a very dangerous decission. Though he supported the Kremlins invasion he was critical on the corruption schemes. Soon after his reports he was found death in something we can only call a framed suicide, January 2024.
/24 A month later Russian militairy blogger Andrey "Murz" Mozorov was found dead. His Telegram channel had revealed th staggering amount of Russian soldiers killed in action near Avdiivka. Like Rybin it proved that criticising the Russian army was a risky thing to do.
/24 Maria Piragova was an depuy of the Donetsk Republic. She was an avid supporter of Vladimir Putin and Russia. She also assisted her husband Alexander Gureskelov in his warcorrespondence. Piragova was killed in her car by a rocketattack in the Donbass december 2022.
/24 Valery Chaika, a Russian official that was involved with the educational services in The Donbass, was blown up in his car on april 1st. We can’t rule out his propagandarole had something to do with it, as Russia heavily uses its schoolsystem to spread it’s warnarrative.
/24 There have been quite a few cases were victims survived an attack. Most recently a defected SBU officer was only wounded after his car blew up in Moscow. This list is probably not complete, yet it gives a good reflection on how dangerous it is to defect or spread propaganda
