I am often asked about book recommendations to learn more about the mining industry, so I've compiled a list of my favorites.

Here are my TOP TEN BOOKS ABOUT MINING.

⛏️🧵

1. The World for Sale

@JavierBlas and @jfarchy's 2021 classic was one of the books that got me interested in the mining and commodities world. They cover in detail some of the largest commodity trading firms, including Glencore, Trafigura, Vitol, and Cargill.

2. Volt Rush

@hjesanderson highlights some of the major mining and refining companies and operations in the battery supply chain, focusing on lithium, cobalt, and copper.

3. The War Below

@ErnestScheyder covers many critical mining projects in the United States, including Lithium Americas' Thacker Pass, ioneer's Rhyolite Ridge, and BHP/Rio Tinto's Resolution, with particular attention on the regulatory challenges facing these projects.

4. Never Rest on Your Ores

Dr. Keevil, longtime CEO and Chairman of Teck Resources, covers the history of his company and family in a brilliantly written autobiography. Insights into one of Canada's most respected mining companies.

5. The Big Score

The story of Diamond Fields and the Voisey's Bay nickel project in Labrador. Robert Friedland sold the company for C$4.3B in 1996 just 3 years after the discovery was made.

6. Bre-X: The Inside Story

The dramatic tale of one of the biggest frauds in the history of Canada and the mining industry. The company's market cap peaked at C$6B in 1996 before collapsing to 0. A cautionary tale of verifying assays.

7. The Mining Valuation Handbook

My go-to book for information about exploration and mining finance.

8. No Guts No Glory: Adolf H Lundin

While difficult to find, this book is a brilliant biography of one of the most successful mining entrepreneurs: Adolf Lundin. His family business has grown over generations, and there are many lessons in passing down wealth and knowledge.

9. For the Years to Come: A Story of International Nickel of Canada

Few mining companies have come as close to a monopoly as INCO, and this 1960 book chronicles the early days. Also a pioneer in nickel superalloys (INCOnel) and close with the US DoD in both world wars.

10. The King of Oil

While not about mining, this book about legendary commodity trader Marc Rich is one of my favorites. A story of risk (gone too far in some cases) and global adventure.

I'll be adding to this list periodically as I continue reading about the history of the mining industry. Let me know your favorites!
