In Amazon Files Part 1, we saw that Amazon had to prep talking points in March 2021 about whether the Biden Admin was asking the company to remove books.
On March 2, 2021, the Biden White House began its pressure campaign.
By March 9, just a week later, Amazon had adopted a new policy, adding a “Do Not Promote” category for anti-vaccine books, consistent with the Biden White House’s criticism.
We now know WHY Amazon adopted this new policy so quickly.
Two days after the Biden White House began its pressure campaign, Amazon’s Book team knew it had to act and act fast.
“The impetus for this request is criticism from the Biden administration about sensitive books we’re giving prominent placement to, and should be handled urgently.”
Just a few days later, as Amazon was still finalizing its policy, another internal Amazon email shows that these changes were being made “due to criticism from the Biden people”
After rushing to implement the new policy and meeting with the Biden White House, Amazon continued to consider “additional steps” because they were “feeling pressure from the White House Taskforce.”
