Congress has already shown an inability to compel information, fact-find and bring accountability 🧵
The attempted assassination of President Trump requires a swift and serious investigation.
The record of the this Congress reveals they lack the political will, resources, technical ability, and legal acumen to conduct such an investigation.
A major impediment to scaling up oversight and investigations is the need for a House vote for steps and enforcement mechanisms (contempt, Leadership approval for subpoenas, etc.) throughout the process.
The American public have seen this Congress consistently hamstrung by these realities in the Impeachment Inquiry into President Biden, and in attempts to hold Garland, Blinken, and Wray accountable for flouting Congressional subpoenas.
The solution is to appoint a Special Commission, comprised of external parties, to conduct a prompt and serious investigation.
A House resolution could change the rules to empower a Special Commission at the outset with all those authorities.
There would not be a need for any future votes (except for a removal, if required).
Time is of the essence.
With ~20 legislative days left before the election, the House is simply out of time to accomplish what the American people demand as concerns the clear USSS failure to protect President Trump.
Members will soon be on August recess and then fully engaged in their re-election campaigns.
The scale of activity that can be accomplished by a Special Commission far exceeds Committee capabilities and could operate in geographically diverse manner.
The American People deserve more than business as usual congressional oversight that devolves into partisan messaging hearings.
The deserve answers.
The Special Commission would be comprised of external experts with the requisite expertise in law enforcement, national security, and intelligence.
The American People need an investigation that they can trust, not more business as usual.
